Impressive Performance Over Diverse Terrains
The VLE’s journey began in Stuttgart at 52°F and ended in Rome at a warm 91°F, with the vehicle maintaining a consistent 72°F cabin temperature for passenger comfort. The route included steep Alpine passes, long highways, and narrow city streets, testing the vehicle’s electric drivetrain, energy recuperation, and thermal management. The rear-axle steering proved invaluable, offering precise handling in Italy’s congested urban areas, making it ideal for everyday usability.
Rigorous Testing for Reliability
This long-distance drive is part of Mercedes-Benz’s comprehensive testing program to validate the VLE’s maturity. Previous tests included a trip to Norway’s North Cape and cold-weather trials in Sweden during the winter of 2025. These real-world evaluations, combined with digital simulations and facility-based tests at the Mercedes-Benz Vans development campus in Stuttgart, ensure the VLE meets high standards for practicality and performance.

A New Era for Electric Vans
Starting in 2026, Mercedes-Benz will launch its modular Van Electric Architecture, distinguishing between luxury-focused Grand Limousines and commercial vans. The VLE, accommodating up to eight seats, caters to families and VIP shuttle services, while the upcoming VLS will target a premium luxury segment. These models will mark Mercedes-Benz’s first all-electric midsize luxury vehicles in the U.S., Canada, and China, blending style, functionality, and sustainability.
