Mitsubishi Motors is gearing up to bring an all-new battery-electric vehicle (BEV) to North America, with sales starting in summer 2026. This launch marks a significant milestone in the company’s Momentum 2030 strategy, a bold plan to roll out new or updated vehicles every year from 2026 to 2030, while strengthening its foothold in the U.S. and Canada.
Key Highlights
- New BEV Debut: Mitsubishi will launch a battery-electric vehicle in the U.S. and Canada in summer 2026.
- Nissan Collaboration: The BEV is based on the next-generation Nissan LEAF, highlighting Mitsubishi’s partnership with Nissan.
- Momentum 2030 Plan: Annual vehicle launches are planned from 2026 to 2030, focusing on electrification and product growth.
- Varied Lineup: The BEV will join the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid, the world’s first plug-in hybrid SUV.
- Business Growth: The strategy includes modernizing retail sales and expanding the dealer network.
This new BEV is a cornerstone of Mitsubishi’s push toward electrification. By teaming up with Nissan, a key Alliance partner, Mitsubishi is tapping into the technology behind the next-generation Nissan LEAF to deliver a competitive electric vehicle. The Momentum 2030 plan, unveiled to dealers in May 2024, outlines a vision for an expanded lineup and a stronger market presence in North America.
Mark Chaffin, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, shared his excitement: “Mitsubishi Motors is on an upward trajectory, especially in the United States. The addition of this new battery-electric vehicle to our lineup will deliver a blend of internal combustion engines, plug-in hybrids, and electric vehicles, so that our customers have the choice of technology that best suits their needs.”
The BEV will complement the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid, reinforcing Mitsubishi’s legacy of innovation. While details like the vehicle’s name and specs are still under wraps, this announcement signals Mitsubishi’s commitment to eco-friendly mobility and customer choice.
