Motiv Electric Trucks is acknowledging a significant achievement by its client, Purolator, a leading Canadian integrated freight, package, and logistics solutions provider. As of May 23, Purolator’s fleet of Motiv electric trucks has collectively traveled 1 million kilometers (approximately 627,000 miles), marking a crucial step in Purolator’s journey toward fleet electrification.

This accomplishment underscores a growing commitment to sustainable logistics and the viability of electric vehicle technology in demanding commercial applications.

Key Highlights:

  • Purolator’s Motiv electric truck fleet has surpassed 1 million kilometers of operation.
  • The company previously announced the delivery of over two million packages using electric vehicles.
  • Purolator aims to electrify 60% of its last-mile delivery vehicles as part of its 2030 sustainability goals.
  • Motiv has delivered 60 EPIC step vans to Purolator, with an additional 24 Sixth Generation units scheduled for delivery starting in July.
  • Motiv Electric Trucks has deployed over 400 vehicles, accumulating more than 6 million miles and delivering over 300 million pounds of goods since 2009.

“Purolator is a shining example of what’s possible when a company commits to decarbonizing their fleet,” stated Scott Griffith, CEO of Motiv Electric Trucks. “What started with a five-vehicle pilot program is now a well-established part of the business, and their drivers, communities they serve, and the overall environment are better for their leadership in electrification. We are honored to call them a partner.”

This kilometer milestone is not an isolated achievement for Purolator. Earlier this year, the logistics giant announced it had successfully delivered more than two million packages utilizing electric vehicles. These efforts are integral to Purolator’s science-based target to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 42% by 2030. A key component of this strategy involves electrifying 60% of its last-mile delivery vehicle fleet.

Cindy Bailey, Vice-President and Corporate Sustainability Officer at Purolator, commented on the achievement: “We’re aiming to become Canada’s greenest courier, and thanks in part to Motiv’s collaboration and support, we’re making significant progress on our fleet electrification roadmap. We’re proud to have reached this milestone and what it means for our business as we strive to reduce our emissions and impacts on the environment.”

The collaboration has seen Motiv deliver 60 EPIC step vans to Purolator. These vehicles have demonstrated robust performance across diverse duty cycles and load factors, operating out of four different terminals, including some of Canada’s coldest regions. Looking ahead, Motiv is set to begin deliveries of an additional 24 Sixth Generation class 5 electric step vans in July.

Founded in 2009, Motiv Electric Trucks has established itself as a prominent manufacturer of medium-duty, zero-emission electric trucks and buses. The company produces a variety of vehicles, including step vans, shuttle buses, box trucks, and work trucks. These vehicles are designed to eliminate tailpipe CO2 emissions and particulate matter, contributing to healthier environments and offering a superior experience for drivers and passengers. Notably, 10 of the 20 largest medium-duty truck fleets in North America have deployed Motiv vehicles, with 64% of vehicles delivered to repeat customers, underscoring strong client satisfaction and trust in Motiv’s technology.
