Motiv Electric Trucks, a prominent manufacturer of medium-duty electric trucks and buses, has announced the appointment of Scott Zion as its new Chief Product and Engineering Officer. With over three decades of experience in vehicle engineering and electric vehicle (EV) technology, Zion is set to lead the company’s engineering excellence and accelerate product innovation.
Key Highlights
- Scott Zion will take charge of Motiv’s product roadmap, design, and validation to ensure the highest quality standards.
- He brings more than 30 years of experience in vehicle engineering, with previous leadership roles at Bollinger Motors, Xos Trucks, Hino Motors, and Ford.
- Motiv has deployed nearly 400 vehicles that have collectively driven over 5 million miles.
- The company accounts for 45 percent of electric step vans in California and has a 64 percent repeat customer rate.
Driving Product Excellence
In his new position, Zion will oversee the entire product and engineering lifecycle. His responsibilities include setting the direction for design and performance to deliver commercial medium-duty electric trucks that exceed customer expectations.
Zion believes that medium-duty commercial trucks are uniquely suited for electrification. “Medium-duty commercial trucks are especially well-suited for electrification given their relatively short-range use cases, predictable duty cycles and depot-based charging,” he stated. Zion expressed his enthusiasm for joining Motiv, a company he notes has led the industry by building products that directly address customer needs.
A Veteran in Electric Vehicle Engineering
Zion’s extensive background makes him a strategic addition to the Motiv team. He most recently served as Chief Product Officer at Bollinger Motors. Before that, he held leadership positions at Xos Trucks and spent over six years as a General Manager and Chief Engineer for Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Programs at Hino Motors. His career began at Ford Motor Company, where he worked on electric vehicles in the early 1990s.
“Scott’s proven expertise in product planning and his experience leading engineering and product teams in the commercial electric trucking space is a perfect fit for where Motiv is today,” said Scott Griffith, CEO of Motiv Electric Trucks. He added that Zion’s leadership will be critical as the company scales its operations.
Motiv’s Market Leadership
For 15 years, Motiv has been a key player in the deployment of electric step vans, box trucks, and buses. The company’s vehicles are trusted by 10 of the 20 largest medium-duty truck fleets in North America, including major brands like Purolator, Vestis, Cintas, and Bimbo Bakeries. This success is underscored by a 64 percent repeat customer rate, demonstrating strong product satisfaction and reliability.
