The World Green Design Organization (WGDO) honored NIO with the 2024 Green Design International Award at its annual conference in Brussels. This accolade highlights the sustainable interior designs of NIO’s electric vehicles, particularly the NIO ET5 Touring and NIO ET7. By embedding eco-conscious practices into every aspect of its design process, NIO is setting a benchmark in the automotive industry.

Innovative Sustainability in Design

The NIO ET5 Touring and ET7 showcase the company’s dedication to sustainability. Their interiors incorporate environmentally friendly materials such as recycled PET bottles, vegan leather-look upholstery, and rattan—used in 14 components of the NIO ET7. Nearly 95% of the aluminum in the drive systems is recycled, and biodegradable materials are utilized in key elements of the vehicles’ designs.

Beyond materials, NIO’s designers prioritize aerodynamic efficiency, ensuring reduced air resistance to lower energy consumption and extend vehicle range. The company’s “Clean+” materials further underscore its commitment to reducing carbon emissions.

Statements from Leadership

Hui Zhang, Vice President of NIO Europe, remarked, “This award impressively underlines how NIO, as part of the European mobility transformation, consistently implements its sustainable vision ‘Blue Sky Coming’ through design.” Similarly, Stephanie Waser, Head of CMF Design at NIO, emphasized their focus on finding the most environmentally friendly solutions, even in the smallest details.

Circular Economy Approach

NIO extends its sustainability efforts beyond vehicle production. Its recycling programs for batteries and components aim to reduce environmental impact by reclaiming raw materials. This initiative reflects NIO’s broader vision for sustainable transportation.
