Nissan has sold 1.25 million electrified vehicles in Europe since introducing the LEAF in 2010, including nearly 350,000 fully electric models. The milestone lands as Nissan broadens its European electrified lineup under its long-term strategy, “Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life,” which the automaker says centers on giving customers flexible paths to electrification. Nissan says the update gives the brand its broadest-ever electrified product range in the region, spanning battery-electric, e-POWER hybrid and conventional hybrid technologies. The current lineup includes the all-electric MICRA, third-generation LEAF, updated Ariya and e-POWER-equipped X-Trail, with an A-segment EV and all-electric JUKE due by early 2027.

European Lineup Showcased in Barcelona
Nissan recently showcased its latest electrified models to European media at a test drive event in Barcelona, featuring the updated, fully electric Ariya and the refreshed X-Trail equipped with e-POWER hybrid technology. The updated Ariya arrives with new colors, additional safety features and enhanced connected services as Nissan’s 100% electric crossover moves into its next model phase.
The X-Trail pairs e-POWER with Nissan’s e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive system, part of a broader push to show how different electrified powertrains suit different driving needs across the lineup.
Expanding the Electrified Range
Nissan’s European electrified lineup currently includes:
- All-electric MICRA — the newly electrified sixth-generation model
- Third-generation LEAF — Nissan’s original mainstream EV, now in its latest generation
- Updated Ariya — a facelifted version of Nissan’s electric crossover
- e-POWER X-Trail — a refreshed SUV equipped with Nissan’s hybrid powertrain
The lineup will expand further with an A-segment EV arriving later this year, developed in partnership with Renault to target affordability for urban customers, followed by an all-electric JUKE in early 2027. Once complete, the range will give European customers a choice of five fully electric Nissan cars, plus the Townstar and Interstar electric vans.
Clíodhna Lyons, Region Vice President, Product & Services Planning for Nissan AMIEO, said the expanded range reflects differing customer needs: “The customer is at the heart of everything we do so we are excited to offer electrified options to suit all needs. Every customer approaches electrification differently. To meet their diverse requirements, from daily city driving to longer-distance travel, we are investing in multiple electrified technologies that provide the flexibility they need. Whether choosing a 100% EV, our unique e-POWER technology or one of our hybrid models, our goal is the same: to give customers the confidence and freedom to choose the electrified vehicle that best suits their lifestyle while supporting Europe’s transition towards an increasingly electrified future.”
What Is Nissan’s e-POWER Technology?
Nissan describes e-POWER as a series-hybrid system in which a gasoline engine generates electricity while an electric motor alone drives the wheels, delivering an EV-like driving experience without external charging. The powertrain is available on the Qashqai and the refreshed X-Trail, both paired with e-4ORCE all-wheel drive. Nissan says the current, third-generation e-POWER system delivers up to 65.7 mpg on the WLTP test cycle — measured in UK imperial gallons, which are larger than U.S. gallons and not directly comparable to EPA fuel-economy figures. According to Nissan, more than 300,000 European customers have chosen an e-POWER model to date.
The LEAF, meanwhile, has expanded its range considerably since its first generation, from 109 miles to up to 387 miles on the WLTP cycle in the latest version — a figure that, like other WLTP ratings, tends to run higher than comparable EPA estimates for U.S. buyers. The third-generation LEAF was recently named Auto Express Car of the Year, according to Nissan.
Electrified Models Gain Ground Across Europe
The expansion comes as hybrids and EVs continue gaining share across the region. ACEA figures show electrified vehicles accounted for 61.3% of total EU new car registrations in 2025, up from 51.7% in 2024. Hybrid electric models overtook gasoline models as the largest single share of the market last year, reaching 34.5%.
