Nissan Launches All-New Elgrand With Third-Gen e-POWER

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. launched the all-new Elgrand premium minivan in Japan this week, with sales beginning July 16, 2026, and pricing starting at ¥6,897,000 (about $42,500) for the X e‑4ORCE grade. The redesigned minivan, first shown at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, pairs a third-generation e‑POWER hybrid system with Nissan’s enhanced e‑4ORCE electric-drive all-wheel control technology. The company positions the Elgrand as a grand-touring flagship built around ride comfort and driving engagement. Nissan also equipped the model with its Intelligent Dynamic Suspension, which adjusts damping force at each wheel in real time.

Third-generation e‑POWER pairs a newly designed ZR15DDTe generator engine with a 5-in-1 electric powertrain unit that integrates motor, generator, inverter, reducer and increaser into a single module.
Enhanced e‑4ORCE now increases use of the rear-wheel motor’s drive force during cornering, and lets drivers view motor output and brake-force distribution in real time on the meter display.

A Design Rooted in Japanese Craft

The all-new Elgrand follows a design concept Nissan calls “The private MAGLEV,” combining a sense of linear speed with what the company describes as a dignified, commanding stance. The vehicle is larger than the outgoing model and reflects Nissan’s “Timeless Japanese Futurism” design philosophy. The front grille draws on Kumiko, a traditional Japanese woodworking craft, and extends into the vehicle’s signature lamps and full-width rear combination lamps. The lightweight wheels use a resin finisher intended to achieve detail that aluminum alone cannot replicate.

Five body colors are offered: four monotone options — Prism White, Shigoku, Dark Metal Gray and Midnight Black — plus a two-tone combining Fuji Dawn and Shigoku. Inside, the cabin is designed as a private lounge, with a higher seating position and a wood-grain instrument panel with integrated capacitive switches. The center and meter displays share a 14.3-inch integrated interface, which Nissan says is a first for the brand in Japan.

Third-Generation e‑POWER and Enhanced e‑4ORCE

The third-generation e‑POWER system combines the ZR15DDTe engine, dedicated solely to power generation, with a 5-in-1 electric powertrain unit. New control technology is intended to improve quietness and fuel efficiency, while the vehicle continues to run on 100% motor drive. Nissan says a substantially improved platform, a high-rigidity body and additional sound insulation contribute to a quieter ride.

The enhanced e‑4ORCE system builds on coordinated motor and brake control to suppress body movement during starts, acceleration and braking. Nissan first brought this generation of e‑POWER paired with e‑4ORCE to market on the all-new Kicks in Japan; the Elgrand extends the combination to the automaker’s flagship minivan.

Intelligent Dynamic Suspension and Six Drive Modes

The Intelligent Dynamic Suspension continuously adjusts damping force at each wheel based on road and driving conditions, which Nissan says reduces body motion and enhances stability. The all-new Elgrand offers six drive modes that adjust the character of e‑POWER, e‑4ORCE and the suspension:

ECO — supports fuel-efficient driving
Standard — a balanced blend of acceleration and ride comfort
Sport — powerful acceleration and enhanced handling for winding roads
Comfort — a refined, comfortable space for passengers
Snow — added confidence on snow and other slippery surfaces
Personal — customizable to the driver’s preferred settings

A Lounge-Like, Quiet Cabin

Nissan’s Smooth Stop feature controls braking force as the vehicle comes to a halt, aiming to suppress the jolt that can occur the moment a vehicle stops. Advanced Active Noise Control, which Nissan calls a world-first, reduces both engine and road noise simultaneously. Interior space is larger than the previous generation, aided by large sliding-door windows and a theater-style seating layout that raises the eye point from the first through third rows.

Every seat is a Zero Gravity Seat, and the second-row seats are wide enough for an adult to shift position while resting; the front passenger seat and both second-row ottomans can be used simultaneously. A Bose 22-speaker premium sound system with 3D surround sound is available as a factory option on the G e‑4ORCE.

Cargo, Convenience and Driver Assistance

The center console includes a wireless charger supporting the Qi2.0 standard for two smartphones at once, plus three 100V AC outlets rated at 1,500 watts for outdoor appliance use or emergency backup power. The third-row seats fold into two stowed positions to balance cargo and passenger space, and Nissan says the Elgrand can carry seven carry-on-size suitcases with seven occupants aboard.

For driver assistance, the X e‑4ORCE comes standard with Nissan’s ProPILOT system, while the G e‑4ORCE adds ProPILOT with Navi-link, Traffic Jam Hands-Off Mode and Lane Change Support as standard equipment, with ProPILOT 2.0 available as an option. The hands-off system operates in congestion at up to 31 mph (50 km/h) and adds Lane Change Support above 37 mph (60 km/h) when prompted by the driver’s turn signal. A memory-equipped ProPILOT Park function can automatically handle steering, acceleration, braking, gear selection and the parking brake as the vehicle approaches a memorized spot.

NissanConnect Adds Google Built-In and a Family Safety Service

The NissanConnect infotainment system now includes Google built-in, supporting Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Play — a feature Nissan has also rolled out on the 2026 Ariya. The system also adds a vehicle status alert for doors, hazard lights or windows left on, and a remote photo feature that captures images around the vehicle if it detects an impact. Nissan is introducing a new “Mimamori Drive” service for second-generation NissanConnect members, including Elgrand owners, that sends real-time smartphone notifications about a family member’s driving status, including when a vehicle enters or leaves a preset area or exceeds a set speed.
