Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. launched the LEAF NISMO in Japan on July 22, 2026, a performance-tuned variant of its electric crossover priced from ¥6,601,100 (approximately $40,470). The model is based on the all-new third-generation LEAF, which Nissan introduced to the Japanese market in January 2026 with a new EV platform and updated range and performance. The LEAF has sold roughly 700,000 units globally since its first generation launched in 2010. The NISMO variant follows a run of recognition for the redesigned LEAF, which was named the 2026 Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year Supreme Winner earlier this year.

NISMO-Tuned Suspension and Grip Drive the Performance Case
Developed under the concept of an “agile intelligent sport crossover,” the LEAF NISMO uses NISMO-exclusive springs, stabilizers and member bushes to increase suspension rigidity and sharpen steering response, according to Nissan. As on the X-Trail NISMO, swing valve-equipped shock absorbers reduce initial body roll while keeping the ride composed over changing surfaces. Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires, mounted on lightweight 19-inch Enkei aluminum wheels, round out the handling package.
Of the four drive modes carried over from the standard LEAF — Standard, ECO, Sport and Personal — Standard, ECO and Sport each receive unique NISMO tuning. Sport mode is designated “NISMO Mode” and is calibrated for more linear acceleration. The LEAF NISMO is also the first EV NISMO model with dedicated tuning for its regenerative-braking control paddles: deceleration force is reduced at Level 1 and increased at Levels 2 through 4 relative to the base model, the company says.
Aerodynamic and Styling Changes Reinforce the NISMO Identity
Exclusive front bumper corner finishers add air-guide functionality intended to smooth airflow along the body sides, while a boat-hull-shaped rear under-spoiler and an extended ducktail spoiler are designed to add downforce without increasing drag compared with the base LEAF, according to Nissan. An “Arterial Magma” red accent runs through the body, and the door mirrors get a gloss-black finish with a red line.
Buyers can choose from six body colors: the four offered on the standard LEAF plus two exclusive variations of NISMO Stealth Gray.
Cabin Gets NISMO Trim and Tuned RECARO Seating
Inside, the LEAF NISMO pairs a black interior with red accents across the power meter, instrument panel finishers and power switch. The steering wheel is wrapped in TailorFit™ synthetic leather with red stitching and a red center marker, and the front seats add red perforations and embroidered NISMO logos.
An optional NISMO-tuned RECARO sport seat package adds power reclining with continuous adjustment, which Nissan says is intended to improve the connection between driver and vehicle.
