The Nissan Formula E Team delivered a stellar performance at the first-ever Tokyo double-header, thrilling home fans with two pole positions, a podium, and a race victory. The event, part of Rounds 8 and 9 in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, saw the team reclaim the lead in the Teams’ Standings and solidify their dominance in all three championship categories.
Key Highlights:
- Oliver Rowland secured two pole positions and a race win, extending his Drivers’ Championship lead to 77 points.
- The team earned a second-place finish on Saturday and a victory on Sunday.
- Nissan regained the Teams’ Standings lead with 172 points and maintained the Manufacturers’ lead with 225 points.
- Norman Nato showed strong pace but faced challenges, finishing 15th and 17th.

On Saturday, heavy rain canceled qualifying, and the grid was set by Free Practice 2 results, placing Rowland on pole and Nato in third. Despite a wet race start and a red flag, Rowland led early but finished second after a strategic pit stop setback. Nato struggled with tire grip, ending in 15th. Sunday’s dry conditions showcased Nissan’s strength, with both drivers advancing in qualifying. Rowland clinched his third consecutive pole and, with smart strategy and bold overtakes, won the race after a fierce battle. Nato, starting eighth, was on track for points until contact dropped him to 17th.
Team principal Tommaso Volpe called the weekend “special,” praising the team’s performance before home fans and Nissan executives. Rowland’s 161 points, from four wins and three podiums, highlight his championship charge. The team now heads to Shanghai for Rounds 10 and 11 on May 31–June 1, aiming to maintain their winning form.
Nissan’s success in Tokyo underscores their commitment to Formula E, aligning with their Ambition 2030 electrification goals. By racing, Nissan advances electric vehicle technology, bringing racetrack innovations to road cars for a sustainable future.
