Key Highlights:
- Seven podium finishes, including a win in London, secured Nissan a fourth-place finish in Season 10.
- The GEN3 car delivers 350 kW of power, reaching a top speed of 200 mph.
- Weighing 60 kg less than the GEN2 car, the GEN3 is both lighter and more powerful.
- Technology from the GEN3 car is integrated into Nissan’s road cars, such as the LEAF and Ariya.
- Drivers must multitask, monitoring and relaying critical data due to the lack of diagnostic communication with engineers.
The Nissan Formula E Team’s garage is a hive of activity on race day, buzzing with the sound of equipment, final adjustments by engineers, and energizing music. The latest Nissan Garage Exclusives video, hosted by motorsports expert Laurence Wiltshire, provides a behind-the-scenes look at the impressive Nissan Formula E GEN3 racecar.
The GEN3 cars are Nissan’s most advanced, delivering 350 kW of power and reaching speeds up to 200 mph. Despite their increased power, they are 60 kg lighter than the previous GEN2 cars. This advanced technology isn’t just limited to the race track; it’s also utilized in Nissan’s consumer vehicles like the LEAF and Ariya.
Driving the GEN3 car demands immense skill and the ability to multitask. Without diagnostic communication between the vehicle and engineers, drivers must relay critical information such as battery temperature and remaining charge. “They have to speak in a secret language because when they talk on the radio, other teams can hear what they’re saying,” explained Wiltshire. “Not only does the driver have to be a fast racing driver… they have to be a pretty talented, intellectual racing driver.”
In the Nissan Garage Exclusives video, Wiltshire offers an in-depth look at the GEN3 car just before the Portland E-Prix, showcasing why it’s Nissan’s most advanced Formula E car to date.
