Announced recently, this collaboration highlights a shared focus on advancing sustainable transportation. Harbinger will use Panasonic’s advanced batteries to power its American-made trucks, improving performance and supporting the shift toward electrification in the commercial vehicle sector.

Key Highlights

  • Panasonic Energy is Harbinger’s official battery cell supplier.
  • Harbinger integrates Panasonic’s 2170 batteries, with energy density over 800Wh/L.
  • Battery supply starts in Japan, with future production planned in Kansas.
  • Harbinger’s in-house design enhances cost, safety, and durability.
  • Panasonic’s batteries have no recall history, ensuring reliability.

Harbinger stands out in the EV market with its vertically integrated approach, designing and building medium-duty vehicles like delivery vans and box trucks at its Garden Grove, California facility. Its proprietary electric stripped chassis includes key systems such as the drivetrain and battery pack. This method keeps costs low while boosting safety and durability. With around 5,000 pre-orders from companies like Bimbo Bakeries USA, Harbinger plans to begin production in early 2025.

Panasonic Energy, a global leader in battery tech, brings its renowned 2170 cells to the partnership. These batteries, boasting an energy density above 800Wh/L, offer top-tier efficiency and safety. By March 2025, Panasonic had delivered 19 billion cells worldwide, powering roughly 3.7 million EVs with zero recalls tied to battery issues. Initially, batteries will come from Japan, but production will shift to Panasonic’s De Soto, Kansas plant, enabling fully U.S.-sourced battery packs.

Harbinger’s CEO, John Harris, praised Panasonic’s quality, saying, “Their track record ensures our chassis get the best batteries available.” Panasonic’s CEO, Kazuo Tadanobu, added, “This partnership advances innovation and sustainability.” Together, they’re set to redefine medium-duty EVs with reliable, high-performance solutions.
