Paper Transport (PTI), a dedicated freight carrier with more than 15 years in sustainable transportation, will evaluate the Tesla Semi Long Range battery-electric tractor in dedicated operations across the Chicago market. The pilot adds a battery-electric option to Paper Transport‘s existing renewable natural gas and intermodal services, giving customers additional ways to cut Scope 3 emissions without sacrificing service or cost, according to CEO Tyler Ellison. PTI’s dedicated model, built on predictable routes and consistent mileage, gives the carrier a controlled environment to assess the Tesla Semi Long Range‘s battery-electric performance.

- Paper Transport begins evaluating the Tesla Semi Long Range battery-electric tractor in dedicated freight operations in the Chicago market
- The pilot adds battery-electric trucking to PTI’s existing renewable natural gas and intermodal offerings
- PTI has logged more than 87 million miles using compressed and renewable natural gas
- PTI has operated as a sustainable-transportation provider for more than 15 years

Why Dedicated Routes Suit a Battery-Electric Evaluation
PTI is testing the Semi within its dedicated operating model, where fixed routes and predictable daily mileage create a controlled setting for measuring battery-electric performance against the carrier’s diesel and natural-gas benchmarks.
“We are excited to partner with Tesla, leveraging their ever-evolving technology,” said Bryan Ellen, Vice President of Maintenance at PTI. “We are bullish in our estimation of the parallels available between our dedicated model and the efficiency of their fully electric Class 8 tractor. We anticipate a growing synergy between our businesses as we work to facilitate this sustainable solution for our customers.”
Building on a Longer Sustainability Push
The Semi evaluation extends a sustainability program PTI has run for more than 15 years. The De Pere, Wisconsin-based carrier has logged more than 87 million miles using compressed and renewable natural gas, and now offers customers a mix of RNG, intermodal, and battery-electric options for cutting transportation emissions.
“PTI has been a leader in sustainable transportation solutions for over 15 years,” said Tyler Ellison, CEO of PTI. “We take a consultative approach to helping customers identify and implement the right transportation solution for their network. Our partnership with Tesla expands our portfolio alongside renewable natural gas and intermodal, giving customers more ways to reduce Scope 3 emissions without compromising service or economics.”
