Polestar announced its most ambitious product expansion to date. The Swedish electric performance brand plans to bring four new models to market between summer 2026 and 2028. The strategy update follows a record 2025 in which the automaker sold approximately 60,119 vehicles, representing 34% year-over-year growth.
Highlights
- Polestar will launch four new EVs in three years, spanning the Polestar 5 GT, a new Polestar 4 variant, a next-generation Polestar 2, and the Polestar 7 compact SUV.
- The company delivered its best sales year ever in 2025, with roughly 60,119 retail units sold and 34% growth over 2024.
- Polestar expects low double-digit retail volume growth in 2026, alongside a 30% expansion of its retail network.
- The Polestar 7 targets Europe’s largest EV segment, where compact SUVs account for about one-third of total battery-electric vehicle sales.
Four Models Across Key Segments
CEO Michael Lohscheller framed the announcement as a push into the most profitable areas of the EV market. Each model targets a distinct segment with strong customer demand.
The four-model rollout breaks down as follows:
- Polestar 5 — A four-door grand tourer built on a lightweight bonded aluminum platform. Developed in the UK, it was first shown in 2025. Customer deliveries begin in summer 2026.
- Polestar 4 (new variant) — A reworked version of Polestar’s current best-selling model. It blends estate-level interior space with SUV versatility and performance. Deliveries are expected in Q4 2026.
- Polestar 2 (next generation) — A completely redesigned successor to the sedan that established the brand. More than 190,000 first-generation units have been sold to date. The new model is planned for early 2027.
- Polestar 7 — A compact premium SUV slated for 2028 production in Europe. It targets the continent’s largest BEV segment, which represented roughly one-third of total battery-electric volumes in 2025.
Polestar 5 Leads as Brand Halo Car
The Polestar 5 serves as the flagship of the expanded lineup. Its bonded aluminum architecture sets it apart from other models in the portfolio. Early European reviews have been favorable, according to the company. The GT competes with established rivals like the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S in the high-performance electric sedan space.
Lohscheller described it as the vehicle that brings a new tier of performance and luxury to the grand-tourer segment.

Polestar 4 Variant Broadens Appeal
The current Polestar 4 coupé is already the brand’s top seller. However, the upcoming variant aims to reach a wider audience. Polestar positions it as a blend of Swedish estate heritage and SUV capability, paired with the dynamic driving character the brand is known for.
The new model shares its core technology with the existing Polestar 4. As a result, development timelines are compressed. Production deliveries are set for the fourth quarter of 2026.

Next-Gen Polestar 2 Returns in 2027
The Polestar 2 holds a foundational role in the company’s history. It was the first model to establish Polestar as a standalone EV brand. With more than 190,000 units sold worldwide, it built a dedicated owner community.
The successor will be an entirely new vehicle rather than a mid-cycle refresh. Polestar is developing it on an accelerated timeline, with a planned market introduction in early 2027.

Polestar 7 Enters Europe’s Largest EV Segment
The Polestar 7 compact SUV represents the brand’s entry into the highest-volume BEV category in Europe. Compact SUVs accounted for roughly one-third of all battery-electric sales on the continent in 2025.
Notably, Polestar plans to manufacture the Polestar 7 in Europe. This marks an expansion of the automaker’s production footprint, which currently spans North America and Asia. Lohscheller expressed confidence in offering a performance-oriented vehicle at a competitive price point in this segment.
Record 2025 Sets the Foundation
Polestar’s product expansion builds on strong recent momentum. Key 2025 performance figures include:
- Full-year retail sales: approximately 60,119 cars (up 34% versus 2024)
- Q4 2025 retail sales: an estimated 15,608 units (up 27% year-over-year)
- Retail network growth: more than 50% expansion during 2025
- Market reach: 28 markets across North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific
Europe drove the majority of sales, accounting for approximately 78% of total volume. The United States represented about 7% of the mix. The sales mix is expected to shift further toward the Polestar 4 in 2026.
Retail Network and Volume Growth Targets
For 2026, Polestar projects low double-digit retail volume growth. The company also plans a 30% expansion of its retail sales network to support the broader model lineup. Financial guidance will accompany the release of Polestar’s full-year 2025 results.
The company has also secured significant financial backing in recent months. This includes a $400 million equity investment from Feathertop Funding Limited, $300 million in equity from BBVA and NATIXIS, a $300 million debt-to-equity conversion by Geely Sweden Holdings, and a $600 million credit facility from a Geely subsidiary.
Polestar currently offers four models: the Polestar 2, Polestar 3, Polestar 4, and Polestar 5. Planned future additions beyond the four announced models include the Polestar 6 roadster.
