Porsche Motorsport has announced a significant operational expansion in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship starting with Season 13 (2026/2027). The reigning Manufacturers’ World Champion will transition from a single works team to fielding up to four factory entries while supporting an independent customer team.
Highlights
- Porsche to run up to four factory Porsche 99X Electric GEN4 cars from Season 13.
- A separate Porsche customer team will also compete with two additional GEN4 cars.
- GEN4 regulations introduce over 600 kW peak power, the largest performance increase in Formula E history.
- All customer-team operations will remain based at Weissach for technical alignment.

Strategic Shift in Factory Involvement
The expanded program replaces the current two-car Andretti customer operation. Porsche will directly manage up to four cars under its works banner.
This move aligns with the introduction of GEN4 machinery in 2026/2027. The new specification raises qualifying power to 400 kW and race power to 300 kW, with regenerative capability exceeding 600 kW during braking phases.
Customer Team Structure
Porsche plans to field two additional GEN4 cars through an independent customer team. The operation will maintain a base at the Porsche Development Centre in Weissach to ensure technical parity.
Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport, emphasized creating operational independence for the customer squad while retaining development synergy.

Technology Transfer and Talent Development
Formula E continues to serve as a key platform for electric powertrain development relevant to Porsche road cars. The expanded presence will also focus on identifying and promoting new engineering and driving talent across all program levels.
Laudenbach noted the series offers a favorable effort-to-benefit ratio compared with other international championships.
Long-Term Brand Alignment
The decision reinforces Porsche’s commitment to electric motorsport as a core pillar alongside its traditional racing heritage. The 2026 expansion coincides with celebrations marking 75 years of Porsche Motorsport competition.
