The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package has claimed another record, this time at the Shanghai International Circuit, becoming the fastest series-production car on the track with a lap time of 2:11.28 minutes. This achievement follows record-breaking runs at both the Nürburgring Nordschleife and Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca in California. Development driver Lars Kern piloted the Taycan to its third record, demonstrating the vehicle’s versatile high-performance capabilities.
Key Highlights

- The Taycan Turbo GT reached speeds of up to 300 km/h on the track.
- The Weissach package includes a powerful and efficient pulse inverter using silicon carbide, and weight-reduction measures for improved performance.
- Equipped with Porsche Active Ride suspension and GT-specific tuning for dynamic driving.
Porsche‘s commitment to showcasing the versatility of the Taycan Turbo GT has led to impressive performance records across diverse tracks worldwide. The Shanghai record marks the first lap time officially recognized by the Shanghai International Circuit for a series-production car. Kevin Giek, Vice President Model Line Taycan at Porsche, highlighted the success by noting the distinct challenges of each racetrack: “In order to show how complete the overall package for the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package is, we set out to break records on three very different courses around the world.”
The Shanghai International Circuit presented unique challenges, including unpredictable weather that kept the track damp. Despite these conditions, Lars Kern successfully showcased the balance and capability of the Taycan Turbo GT, particularly during challenging sections like the “snail curve.” With top speeds reaching 300 km/h, the Taycan proved its traction and power, making it a well-rounded high-performance vehicle.
Porsche also implemented various features to boost the Taycan’s track capability, such as attack mode, which delivers an additional 120 kW of power for short bursts, and lightweight construction measures that reduce the weight by up to 75 kg compared to the Taycan Turbo S. The use of carbon parts, a racing cage, and Pirelli Trofeo RS tires helped optimize the vehicle for track conditions.
In spring 2024, Porsche expanded the Taycan range by introducing the Taycan Turbo GT and Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package, both boasting advanced performance enhancements. These include a more efficient pulse inverter using silicon carbide for the rear axle and a focus on achieving a better power-to-weight ratio. The Porsche Active Ride suspension further enhances the vehicle’s dynamics by ensuring balanced wheel load distribution, contributing to an almost perfect connection to the road during spirited driving.
These recent accomplishments underscore the international success of the Taycan Turbo GT, setting records in Germany, the United States, and now China. The Porsche Taycan continues to push the boundaries of what an all-electric sports saloon can achieve on some of the world’s most challenging tracks.
