Volkswagen ID.3 Neo Debuts with 630 km Range and New Design

Volkswagen's ID.3 Neo debuts with a new drive system delivering up to 630 km WLTP range, three battery options, a redesigned interior, and vehicle-to-load capability. Pre-sales open April 16 across Europe.

Volkswagen has unveiled the ID.3 Neo, the successor to its compact electric hatchback, at a world premiere on April 15, 2026. The new model arrives with a redesigned exterior, an extensively upgraded interior, and a new drive system that delivers up to 630 km of WLTP range in the top battery configuration. Pre-sales open across Germany and many European markets on April 16, with UK pricing to be announced separately.

Highlights

  • Up to 630 km WLTP range in the range-optimized variant of the 79 kWh net battery configuration
  • Three motor outputs — 125 kW, 140 kW, and 170 kW — each paired with a corresponding battery size
  • New Innovision infotainment system featuring a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit and a 12.9-inch central display
  • Vehicle-to-Load function supports up to 3.6 kW output for powering external devices from the high-voltage battery

Pure Positive Exterior Design

The ID.3 Neo’s exterior reflects Volkswagen’s “Pure Positive” design language, developed by Chief Designer Andreas Mindt. The front end features a continuous light strip and an illuminated logo. Body-color paint now extends to the roof, rear spoiler, and trunk lid — an approach Volkswagen says gives the car a longer and flatter visual profile compared to its predecessor, which The EV Report covered earlier this year when Volkswagen first announced the ID.3 Neo name and its planned features.

Powertrain and Battery Configurations

The drive system is a new development, delivering higher torque and lower energy consumption than the motors used in the previous ID.3 generation. Three power outputs are available — 125 kW (170 PS), 140 kW (190 PS), and 170 kW (231 PS) — paired across three battery sizes:

  • 125 kW / 50 kWh net — standard in the Trend trim; DC fast charging up to 105 kW
  • 140 kW / 58 kWh net — optional in Life and Style trims; DC fast charging up to 105 kW
  • 170 kW / 79 kWh net — optional in Life and Style trims; DC fast charging up to 183 kW

The 630 km WLTP figure applies to the 79 kWh model in its most range-favorable equipment variant. Volkswagen notes that actual range will vary with driving style, speed, outside temperature, and payload. The ID.3’s previous battery generation demonstrated strong durability, retaining 91% of net capacity after 160,000 km in ADAC endurance testing.

Interior

Overhauled Interior

The cabin features a new horizontal cockpit layout with revised controls and a redesigned multi-function steering wheel flattened at the top and bottom. Interior materials are positioned at a quality level associated with the next segment up, according to Volkswagen. The Innovision infotainment system delivers a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit alongside a 12.9-inch central display, with updated graphics and a simplified interface.

Connected Features

The ID.3 Neo adds several software-driven functions available at launch. An optional Connected Travel Assist system provides automatic traffic light recognition. One-pedal driving allows the vehicle to decelerate to a complete stop through regenerative braking alone. The car also supports a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function, drawing from the high-voltage battery to power external devices — including electric grills and e-bikes — at up to 3.6 kW via an adapter on the Mode 3 charging port.

A new in-car app store, integrated into the Innovision system, allows users to download apps covering audio, video streaming, parking, charging, and gaming.

Optional Equipment

Available options include an augmented-reality head-up display, a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree Area View, front seat massage and memory functions, a Harman Kardon premium sound system, and a removable bracket for tow-bar bicycle carriers rated up to 75 kg.

Martin Sander on the ID.3 Neo Philosophy

Martin Sander, Member of the Board of Management responsible for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, commented: “We have developed the new vehicle generation based on the motto ‘True Volkswagen’ and have consistently placed the benefits for our customers at the centre of our actions. In addition to the long range, models such as the ID.3 Neo impress with a superior, timeless design that provides long-lasting pleasure, high quality for a noticeably first-class driving experience and technical perfection that can always be relied on. This is complemented by particularly intuitive operation, which makes everyday driving easier and more convenient.”
