Monaco, a principality known for its glamour and motorsport history, is also a pioneer in electric mobility, a vision it has been cultivating since the 1990s. Porsche recently highlighted its commitment to this electrified future by showcasing “E-Performance to the power of three” – demonstrating its advancements on the road, water, and racetrack within the unique setting of Monaco. The principality’s long-standing dedication to electric vehicles (EVs) includes promoting EV purchases, offering free charging, and developing a robust charging infrastructure, with approximately 300 public charging points in its less than two-square-kilometer area.

Key Highlights:

  • Monaco has been promoting electromobility since the 1990s, aiming to improve air quality and life.
  • The principality provides around 300 public charging points, with the goal of a free public station within a 200-meter radius for every resident.
  • Porsche showcased three facets of its E-Performance: the all-electric Macan 4S for everyday use, the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air electric boat, and its involvement in Formula E.
  • The Macan Electric features a 100 kWh gross capacity lithium-ion battery, 800-volt architecture, and DC charging up to 270 kW.
  • The Frauscher x Porsche eFantom boat utilizes Macan’s powertrain technology, offering up to 400 kW (540 PS) and a top speed of around 90 km/h (49 knots).
  • Porsche’s Formula E race cars, like the Porsche 99X Electric, recuperate up to 600 kW during braking and achieve over 97 percent powertrain efficiency.

E-Performance on the Road and Water

The day in electrified Monaco began with the all-electric Macan 4S, Porsche’s first all-electric SUV. This vehicle represents a significant step in Porsche’s electric journey, which started with the Taycan in 2019. The Macan Electric, launched in 2024, is not merely a derivative but an independent interpretation, boasting a 100 kWh gross capacity lithium-ion battery and 800-volt architecture that allows for rapid charging – enough energy for hundreds of kilometers in about 20 minutes. The Macan 4S offers an overboost output of up to 380 kW (516 PS), demonstrating that performance and efficiency can coexist in electric vehicles.

From the urban streets, the focus shifted to the water with the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air. This electric sports boat is a collaboration between Austrian boatbuilder Frauscher and Porsche, integrating the drive technology from the Macan Electric. The 8.67-meter day cruiser features a 100-kWh high-voltage battery and a permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor, delivering up to 400 kW (540 PS). It can reach a top speed of approximately 90 km/h (49 knots) in Sport Plus mode. The eFantom, recognized as Powerboat of the Year in the Electric category at boot Düsseldorf 2025, also benefits from Porsche’s 800-volt technology, enabling DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes. This project underscores the rapid development of electromobility on the Côte d’Azur, with cities like Nice and Cannes also expanding charging infrastructure.

Formula E

Electrifying the Racetrack: Formula E

The afternoon in Monaco highlighted Porsche’s presence in Formula E, the all-electric racing series that has been competing in the principality since 2015. The current GEN3 Evo race cars produce up to 350 kW (480 PS). A key technological marvel is the braking system; the Porsche 99X Electric recuperates at up to 600 kW, significantly reducing the reliance on traditional friction brakes. Florian Modlinger, Porsche’s Formula E Overall Project Manager, noted the enormous progress in energy efficiency, with drivers now completing entire races on a single charge and recovering up to 55 percent of energy through recuperation. For each race, teams have 38.5 kWh of energy available, regardless of distance, pushing teams to develop software solutions for efficiency gains. Modlinger emphasized the remarkable efficiency of the Porsche 99X Electric’s powertrain, exceeding 97 percent, a stark contrast to Formula 1’s hybrid drives (below 55 percent) and conventional road car engines. For Porsche, Formula E serves as a crucial test laboratory and innovation driver, with findings directly influencing series production development.

The day in Monaco showcased a tangible future of e-performance across different domains, underscoring the principality’s role as a glamorous stage for the advancement of electric mobility.
