Range Rover Confirms Electric GT as Fifth Model

Land Rover has confirmed Range Rover GT, its fifth model and first all-electric vehicle, built on the new EMA platform and previewed with a "reductive" interior design.

Range Rover has confirmed Range Rover GT as the fifth model in its lineup — a grand tourer that will be the brand’s first all-electric vehicle, built on Jaguar Land Rover’s new Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA) platform. The GT will launch as a battery-electric model, with a full hybrid electric option planned to follow later in its production life, and will be built at Land Rover’s Halewood, UK plant alongside gasoline and hybrid models, the company said. Land Rover also previewed the Range Rover GT cabin for the first time, describing a “reductive” design built around a single central screen and a driver display in place of a traditional instrument cluster. Prototype vehicles are undergoing final on-road testing now, wrapped in a camouflage pattern inspired by the countryside surrounding the brand’s Gaydon, UK design and engineering base.

A Fifth Model for the Range Rover Lineup

Land Rover said today that Range Rover GT will join Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar and Range Rover Evoque as the brand’s fifth model line, adding a grand tourer body style to the range for the first time. The company has not disclosed pricing, range, battery capacity or an on-sale date, saying only that further details will follow later this year.

First All-Electric Range Rover on the New EMA Platform

Range Rover GT will be the first Range Rover built on Jaguar Land Rover’s new Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA), a platform distinct from the Modular Longitudinal Architecture that underpins the existing Range Rover Sport Electric. The GT will launch as a battery-electric vehicle, with Land Rover planning to add a full hybrid electric option later in the model’s lifecycle. Production will take place at the company’s Halewood, UK plant, where the GT will be built on the same line as gasoline and hybrid Range Rover models.

A “Reductive” Interior Design

Land Rover showed the inside of the GT for the first time, describing a cabin shaped by what the company calls “reductive” design principles emphasizing purity and quiet modernity. The interior replaces a traditional instrument cluster with a single central screen and driver display, and includes a concealed air vent that spans the width of the cabin. A woven textile material wraps the dashboard and conceals the speakers, part of what Land Rover describes as an effort to reduce visual and acoustic noise inside the cabin.

Prototype Testing Underway

Prototype vehicles are undergoing final on-road testing now, wrapped in a camouflage design created by Land Rover’s in-house creative team. The pattern is based on the topography surrounding Gaydon, UK, rendered in a gold, flowing motif intended to evoke the GT’s grand-touring character. Land Rover says additional details on the GT — including performance, battery and pricing specifics — will follow later this year.
