REE Automotive has announced the start of U.S. production for its P7 electric trucks, in partnership with Roush Industries. This collaboration will begin in the fourth quarter of 2024 at Roush’s Detroit facility, with an annual production capacity of up to 5,000 trucks. Motherson, a global automotive supplier, will oversee logistics and quality assurance. The move is expected to accelerate REE’s production ramp-up and improve cost efficiencies while allowing customers to secure production slots for fleet electrification.
Key Highlights:
- Production Timeline: Assembly of REE’s P7 electric trucks to commence in Q4 2024.
- Annual Capacity: Roush’s Detroit facility will produce up to 5,000 trucks annually.
- Partnerships:
- Roush Industries will serve as the contract manufacturer for the P7 vehicles.
- Motherson will manage global supply chain, logistics, and on-site quality assurance.
- Technology Focus: P7 electric trucks feature REE’s proprietary REEcorner® technology, enhancing vehicle efficiency and interior volume.
- Customer Impact: Production slots are now open for customers, facilitating faster access to electric fleet vehicles.
The P7 trucks are designed around REE’s groundbreaking REEcorner® technology, which integrates critical components like steering, braking, and suspension into the area between the chassis and the wheel. This innovative design allows for a fully flat electric chassis, providing up to 35% more interior space for passengers, cargo, and batteries. Additionally, the P7 trucks are autonomous-ready and offer a choice between battery or fuel cell power.
With 78 service and sales locations across North America and access to over 200 fleets in the U.S. and Canada, REE is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for electric fleet vehicles. “We chose to work with Roush because of their proven capabilities and expertise in the commercial EV market,” said Josh Tech, Chief Operating Officer of REE. By leveraging Roush’s nearly 40 years of manufacturing experience, REE aims to optimize production costs and accelerate its go-to-market strategy.
This U.S. production launch is a significant step in REE’s strategy to expand its presence in the electric commercial vehicle market, offering fleet operators a customizable, high-tech, and cost-efficient solution for their electrification needs.
