Rivian R1T & R1S Recall: Auto-Hold Risk

Rivian recalls 7,873 R1T and R1S vehicles due to a potential auto-hold and park malfunction. If your vehicle is affected, an over-the-air software update and accelerator pedal replacement are available, free of charge.

What’s the problem?

Under extreme cabin temperatures, a faulty accelerator pedal sensor may prevent your Rivian R1T or R1S from automatically engaging “auto-hold” or “park” when you lift your foot off the pedal. This increases the risk of unintended vehicle movement, potentially leading to accidents.

Which Rivians are affected?

  • 2022 R1T and R1S models built between June 10, 2021, and October 31, 2022.
  • You can check your VIN on Rivian’s website or contact customer service at 1-888-748-4261.

What should you do?

  1. Install the latest software update (2023.46.01 or 2023.50). This update fixes the sensor issue. Check your vehicle’s infotainment system for updates or use the Rivian app.
  2. Schedule an appointment for a free accelerator pedal replacement. Rivian will contact you directly to schedule the service.

Even after installing the update, schedule the pedal replacement for complete safety.

Additional Information:

  • Rivian is not aware of any accidents, injuries, or fatalities related to this issue.
  • Owner notification letters will be mailed on February 16, 2024.
  • You can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 1-888-327-4236 or visit their website at www.nhtsa.gov.
