Rivian has detailed the R2 Performance with Launch Package, the dual-motor flagship variant that opens customer deliveries of its mid-size electric SUV this spring. The limited-run trim starts at $57,990 and bundles the brand’s full Autonomy+ hands-free driving suite for the lifetime of the vehicle, a 4,400-pound tow package, and an exclusive Launch Green paint option. Production began at Rivian’s Normal, Illinois plant on April 22 following a brief tornado-related pause to the facility.

- Powertrain: Dual-motor AWD producing 656 hp and 609 lb-ft of torque, with 0–60 mph in 3.6 seconds

Performance and Chassis Hardware
The R2 Performance pairs its dual-motor AWD layout with semi-active suspension that is exclusive to the trim and not available as an upgrade on lower variants. Rivian’s structural battery pack lowers the vehicle’s center of gravity, supporting on-road handling without compromising off-road geometry. The powertrain enables a 50–70 mph passing time of 1.55 seconds, according to Rivian’s pre-production specifications.
The Launch Package adds the tow package as standard equipment, rated at 4,400 pounds. Eight drive modes — including Rally, Soft Sand, and a dedicated Launch Mode — are restricted to the Performance trim and do not appear on the Premium or Standard configurations.
Autonomy+ Included for Vehicle Lifetime
The standout commercial element of the Launch Package is lifetime access to Rivian Autonomy+, the brand’s hands-free driver-assistance system. Following the Launch Edition window, Autonomy+ will be sold separately at $49.99 per month or $2,500 as a one-time purchase. The package transfers with the vehicle on resale.
The system supports hands-free operation across what Rivian describes as 3.5 million miles of mapped roads in the United States and Canada, with a Lane Change on Command function that initiates lane changes on divided highways at the driver’s request. The feature does not respond to traffic signals or stop signs, and Rivian notes that drivers must be prepared to resume manual control at any time.

Colors, Interior, and Limited-Edition Trim Cues
Esker Silver is the standard exterior finish, with Catalina Cove, Half Moon Grey, Glacier White, and Midnight available at no extra cost. Forest Green is scheduled to follow later. Launch Green — the original R1 development color tied to Rivian’s e-coat process — returns as a paid upgrade exclusive to the Launch Package window.
Two interior treatments are available: Black Crater Signature, which uses upcycled birch wood and dark textile accents, ships first. Coastal Cloud Signature, a lighter palette, follows later. Both Launch Package vehicles also include a limited-edition key fob in Rivian Green anodized aluminum.
Production and Delivery Outlook
Rivian started saleable R2 production at its Normal facility on April 22, days after an EF-1 tornado struck Building 2. Customer reservation invites are scheduled to begin going out in June, with first deliveries this spring. The Premium AWD trim is expected later in 2026, and the Standard Long Range and entry-level Standard variants follow in 2027.
The Performance Launch Edition’s 330-mile EPA range puts it ahead of the comparably priced Tesla Model Y Performance on range, despite a heavier curb weight. The R2 also debuts as Rivian’s first vehicle with a native NACS charge port, giving owners direct access to Tesla’s Supercharger network without an adapter.
