RIZON, the latest addition to Daimler Truck’s electric vehicle lineup, is now entering the Canadian market with its class 4-5 trucks. This introduction marks a significant expansion for the brand, previously launched in the United States. Canadian businesses and municipalities eager to adopt zero-emission fleets will find RIZON trucks an appealing option, with preorders starting in June 2024 and deliveries expected by year-end. The trucks will be showcased at Truck World in Toronto from April 18th to 20th.
Key Highlights:
- Launch in Canada: RIZON trucks make their debut, expanding zero-emission options.
- Incentives Available: Up to $150,000 in combined federal and provincial incentives.
- Versatile Models: Four truck variants, designed for a range of commercial needs.
- Advanced Safety Features: Includes Active Brake Assist and Side Guard Assist.
- Cold Weather Optimization: Preconditioning and heated features enhance performance and comfort.
The RIZON model lineup will include the e16L, e16M, e18L, and e18M variants, catering to diverse operational requirements with a gross vehicle weight ranging from 15,995 to 18,850 pounds. Each model is tailored to operate efficiently in specific applications such as dry vans, flatbeds, landscape dumps, and reefers. They feature innovative electric power take-off (ePTO) systems, enhancing the functionality for specialized equipment.
Andreas Deuschle, Global Head of RIZON Truck, highlighted the strategic importance of the Canadian market: “Canada is very advanced regarding green energy and infrastructure, and is a natural next step for RIZON’s second market,” he noted. “They are proven OEM trucks with the latest technology from Daimler Truck. RIZON is the best Class 4-5 fully electric truck money can buy.”
Safety is a paramount feature for RIZON trucks, incorporating both passive and active systems to protect occupants and the public. Innovations like Active Brake Assist and Side Guard Assist provide additional security, particularly in urban environments with frequent stops and close-quarter maneuvering.
Charging solutions include Level 2 AC Charging via a J1772 connector and DC Fast Charging with a CCS1 connector, providing flexibility and ease of use. The trucks are also optimized for Canadian winters, featuring an electric preconditioning function for the batteries and heated components such as seats, steering wheels, and windshields to ensure comfort and operational efficiency in cold conditions.
Financial incentives are a strong selling point for prospective buyers, with the iMHZEV federal program offering approximately $75,000 at the point of sale. Provincial incentives in regions like British Columbia and Quebec could add another $75,000, significantly reducing the initial investment required for these advanced vehicles.
Distribution in Canada will be handled by Velocity Electric Vehicle Canada starting in the fourth quarter of 2024, establishing a network in key provinces such as Alberta, British Columbia, and Quebec. This setup will provide comprehensive support and services for customers transitioning to electric mobility solutions.
As RIZON trucks prepare to enter the Canadian market, they represent a pivotal shift towards sustainable transportation solutions, supported by robust technology and substantial financial incentives.
