RML Group Ltd, a prominent UK-based high-performance automotive engineering company, has achieved a significant milestone by securing Conformity of Production (CoP) certification for its advanced battery systems. This inaugural CoP certification for an RML product, awarded by the UCA (an independent body appointed by certifying authorities), marks a pivotal development. It underscores the company’s readiness to supply OEM-grade electrified powertrain components and transition towards mid-volume electric vehicle (EV) production, solidifying its position in the competitive automotive sector.
Key Highlights:
- RML Group awarded Conformity of Production (CoP) certification for its battery systems.
- The certification confirms consistent compliance with UN ECE Regulation 100, a key international safety standard for electrified powertrains.
- This is the first-ever CoP certification for an RML product, signaling a major step towards becoming an OEM-level supplier.
- The approval validates RML’s capability to move from prototype development to reliable mid-volume EV component production.
- This achievement positions RML Group as a Tier 1-capable supplier within the electric vehicle market.
Following a meticulous audit process, the UCA confirmed that RML Group’s quality management systems meet the stringent requirements necessary to consistently manufacture products in line with UN ECE Regulation 100. This regulation is crucial as it pertains to the safety requirements for rechargeable energy storage systems (RESS) in electric vehicles.
James Arkell, Head of Powertrain at RML Group, commented on the achievement: “This is an important step forward for RML. It really highlights the in-depth technical capability and quality standards RML adhere to. Performance is a key part of what RML offers – doing this safely, reliably, and repeatably is key to our success, and this certification solidifies that message to the industry.”
The attainment of CoP certification is widely recognized as a minimum benchmark for suppliers aspiring to collaborate with major automotive manufacturers. It signifies that a company not only possesses the expertise to design components to exacting safety standards but can also manufacture them reliably and at scale. With this certification, RML Group significantly enhances its credibility and capability, firmly entering the domain of Tier 1 suppliers.
This certification is a crucial element of RML’s broader strategy to homologate its innovative VarEVolt battery platform. It strategically positions the company to compete for larger-scale contracts that extend well beyond prototype creation or ultra-low volume production runs.
Arkell further elaborated on the competitive advantage: “This certification puts clear water between us and a number of smaller start-ups in the EV space. It underlines our readiness to move from prototyping and niche volumes to supporting larger production contracts.”
Established in 1984 by Ray Mallock, RML Group has a long-standing history of delivering world-leading performance engineering. The company’s expertise spans short-run manufacturing, the creation of continuation cars, cutting-edge battery development, and bespoke motorsport programs, all underpinned by its founding principle of Engineering Excellence. This latest certification for its battery systems is a testament to RML’s ongoing commitment to quality, safety, and innovation in the evolving automotive landscape.
