The construction of Scout Motors‘ new production center in Blythewood, South Carolina, is making significant strides. This state-of-the-art facility, announced in March 2023, promises to create over 4,000 jobs and produce 200,000 vehicles annually. Recent updates highlight the progress made since the first steel beams were erected in May, showcasing advancements across the entire site.

Key Highlights:

  • $2 billion investment in Blythewood, South Carolina
  • Creation of over 4,000 permanent jobs
  • Production capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year
  • State-of-the-art facilities including a body shop, paint shop, final assembly buildings, a training center, and a technology center
  • Significant progress in site development and infrastructure improvements

The new Scout vehicles will be built on a newly designed body-on-frame electric vehicle platform. The production center’s main structures include a body shop, a paint shop, and final assembly buildings. Additionally, the site features a state-of-the-art training center for employees and a technology center to support future vehicle development.

In May, the first steel beams of the main assembly building went vertical. Since then, crews have moved over 7 million cubic yards of dirt and continued grading and infrastructure enhancements. Approximately 10% of the steel is now installed for the assembly building, which will span nearly 1.3 million square feet upon completion.

The paint facility for Scout Motors has also seen progress, with the first steel beams now in place. The body shop building is preparing for its first vertical steel pieces, which will support a 1.3 million square foot space with more than 600 foundations.
