SEAT & CUPRA have officially commissioned their new battery system assembly plant at the Martorell factory in Spain. This facility marks a critical operational milestone in the company’s transformation toward full electrification and establishes a new hub for e-mobility in Europe.
Highlights
- Investment: The 64,000-square-meter facility was constructed with an investment of €300 million.
- Capacity: The plant can assemble 1,200 battery systems daily, totaling 300,000 units per year.
- Production: Operations will support the CUPRA Raval and Volkswagen ID. Polo beginning in 2026.
- Sustainability: Rooftop solar panels generate 70% of the electricity required for the assembly process.

Facility Specifications and Capacity
The new assembly plant covers an area of 64,000 square meters and was completed in just over two years. It features high-throughput automation capable of delivering one battery system every 45 seconds.
This operational speed allows for a daily output of 1,200 systems. Annual capacity stands at 300,000 units, which are transported automatically to the assembly workshop via a dedicated 600-meter bridge.
Sustainability measures are integral to the plant’s infrastructure. The roof houses 11,000 solar panels that supply 70% of the energy needed for assembly operations. Additionally, a water collection system enhances resource efficiency.
Strategic Role in Electrification
This facility is central to the Volkswagen Group’s battery strategy, designed to balance in-house and third-party supply chains. It utilizes the MEB+ battery system, incorporating unified cell technology and lithium-iron phosphate chemistry for improved cost and flexibility.
Martorell is now positioned as the Group’s third-largest production site in Europe. The factory aims for a maximum capacity of 600,000 vehicles annually, with electric vehicles (BEVs) potentially accounting for 300,000 of those units.
The plant supports the Electric Urban Car Family project, which involves producing four electric models across three brands. This initiative coordinates manufacturing efforts between the Martorell teams and Volkswagen Navarra.

CUPRA Raval Production Details
The CUPRA Raval will be the first model from the Electric Urban Car Family to reach the market. Series production is scheduled to begin in 2026 at Martorell, running alongside the Volkswagen ID. Polo.
Built on the MEB+ platform, the Raval features a front-wheel-drive configuration and measures four meters in length. Launch editions will offer power outputs ranging from 155 kW to 166 kW.
Range estimates vary by model, with the VZ Extreme offering approximately 400 km and the Dynamic Plus reaching up to 450 km. The entry-level Dynamic version will start at €26,000.
