Rivian has reorganized its 2027 R1 lineup around three trims — Premium, Performance and Quad — with the R1S starting at $83,990 and the R1T at $79,990. The updates to the 2027 R1S and R1T retire the previous Dual, Tri and Quad motor-count naming, add second-row captain’s chairs to the R1S, put a new 20-inch wheel on the R1T, and introduce Esker Silver paint across both models. Rivian says the changes were shaped by feedback from current R1 owners.

R1 Trims: Premium, Performance and Quad
Rivian is moving from motor-count naming to three tiers that group powertrains, battery options and interiors. The company says the structure aligns R1 with R2’s trim structure for consistency across the lineup.

Figures are Rivian’s own estimates, and the company notes that torque, horsepower and acceleration vary with battery, tires, drive mode, vehicle load and weather. Range estimates are based on a configuration with 22-inch road wheels and tires. The Quad also runs a quarter mile in 10.5 seconds on R1T using Launch Mode, which Rivian restricts to closed-circuit use in dry conditions.
Interior Naming Follows R2
Performance and Quad trims carry three Signature interiors: Slate Sky Signature, pairing grays with plaid details and walnut accents; Black Mountain Signature, with warm ash wood accents; and Ocean Coast Signature, built around sandy tones and weathered driftwood. Premium offers Black Mountain, in dark tones with dark ash accents, and Ocean Coast, in soft grays with contrasting dark ash.
What Do the R1S Captain’s Chairs Change?
The R1S is now available with second-row captain’s chairs, which Rivian describes as its most requested interior feature to date. The resulting six-seat configuration is built around a center pass-through, letting passengers reach the third row without adjusting the second-row seats or disturbing installed car seats.
Each chair has an individual armrest that stows flush into the seat and a push-to-release cup holder that folds down from the seat’s inside edge. Both seats are heated, fold flat, and retain full car seat tie-downs. Rivian says long gear such as skis and surfboards can pass through the center of the cabin with all six passengers seated.
The seven-seat bench remains available on both interiors on R1S Premium, and on Black Mountain Signature for R1S Performance and Quad.
R1T Gains a 20-Inch Adventure Wheel
The R1T picks up a combination 20-inch Adventure All-Season wheel and tire, a Goodyear fitment standard on R1T Premium and available as a no-cost option on R1T Performance. Rivian says the setup balances off-road traction against rolling resistance, with EPA-estimated range of 300 miles on Premium, 380 miles on Premium Long Range, and 348 miles on Performance.
Esker Silver Replaces LA Silver
Esker Silver, the liquid-metal finish introduced on R2, becomes the included paint option across both R1S and R1T, replacing LA Silver. Rivian describes the finish as using fine metallic flakes for depth, and says color availability may vary by configuration and model. It is offered across all R1 variants and with every interior.

The new features are configurable now, with R1S pricing opening at $83,990 and R1T at $79,990. Both figures apply to U.S.-market vehicles before taxes and location-based fees. Rivian lists the trims, colors and interiors on its R1 configurator, and is taking demo drive bookings.
