Dacia has revealed the second-generation Spring, a European-built A-segment electric car with a 27.5 kWh LFP battery, up to 155 miles of WLTP range, and an anticipated UK price below £18,000 (roughly $24,400) before any government incentives. The redesigned New Dacia Spring is the first of four all-electric models the brand committed to in the strategic roadmap to 2030 it unveiled in March. It moves to Renault Group’s new RG-EV Small platform and shifts production to the Novo Mesto plant in Slovenia, replacing a first-generation car that Dacia says has sold more than 210,000 units across more than 40 countries since 2021.
Highlights
- Powertrain: 60 kW (80 hp) motor with 129 lb-ft (175 Nm) of torque; 0–62 mph (0–100 km/h) in 12.1 seconds; 81 mph (130 km/h) top speed
- Battery and range: 27.5 kWh usable LFP pack; up to 155 miles WLTP combined; 12.7 kWh/100 km (62 miles) consumption
- Charging: 6.6 kW AC standard; optional Charge Pack adds 11 kW AC and 50 kW DC for a 28-minute 15–80% charge
- Dimensions: 5.9 inches (15 cm) longer and 7.1 inches (18 cm) wider than the outgoing model; up to 11.9 cubic feet (337 liters) of trunk space
New Platform, European Production
The new Spring keeps its name but shares little else with its predecessor. Built on Renault Group’s RG-EV Small platform, it measures 151.6 inches (3.85 m) long and 68.5 inches (1.74 m) wide excluding mirrors. According to Dacia, the wider track increases interior space while giving the car a more upright stance, with a short, high hood, pronounced wheel arches, and black trim strips linking the headlights and taillights.
The Spring is the first Dacia developed under Renault Group’s new development program, which the company says is designed to cut the vehicle design cycle to under two years while reducing costs. Curb weight is 2,672 lbs (1,212 kg), which Dacia describes as among the lightest in the electric A-segment.
Dacia cites connected-vehicle data showing first-generation Spring owners average 13 miles a day at an average speed of 13 mph, with 75% of charging done at home. The second-generation car is positioned around that usage profile.
How Fast Does the New Dacia Spring Charge?
A 6.6 kW onboard AC charger is standard on both trims. The optional Charge Pack adds an 11 kW AC charger, a 50 kW DC charger, and vehicle-to-load capability for powering small appliances such as lights or e-bike batteries.
| Charging setup | Power | 15–80% charge time |
|---|---|---|
| Domestic socket (standard 6.6 kW AC) | — | 9 hours |
| Heavy-duty socket (standard 6.6 kW AC) | — | 5 hours 40 minutes |
| Home charger (standard 6.6 kW AC) | 7 kW | 2 hours 55 minutes |
| Three-phase home charger or public AC (Charge Pack) | 11–22 kW | 1 hour 55 minutes |
| DC fast charger (Charge Pack) | 50 kW | 28 minutes |
Dacia says the LFP chemistry was chosen in part because iron and phosphate are more readily available than the nickel and cobalt used in other battery types. The company is targeting a roughly 60% reduction in lifecycle carbon footprint compared with equivalent ICE models, based on a Renault Group life-cycle assessment of the projected 2027 European sales mix against segment A and B non-hybrid gasoline vehicles.
Interior Space and Storage
Dacia says the Spring has one of the most spacious cabins in the electric A-segment and the largest trunk in its class:
- Trunk capacity: up to 11.9 cubic feet (337 liters), with a two-section removable floor
- Rear seats folded: 45.3 cubic feet (1,283 liters), via a 50/50 split rear bench
- Front trunk: optional 0.6 cubic feet (18 liters) under the hood, which Dacia says remains unique in the A-segment
- YouClip: up to three standard accessory mounting points, with two more available as accessories
The cabin pairs a standard 7-inch digital instrument cluster with a 10.1-inch central touchscreen on the higher trim. Turning circle is quoted at 16.2 feet (4.95 m). An electric parking brake and rear parking sensors are standard across the range, and a “My Safety” function lets drivers store preferred ADAS settings rather than reconfiguring them at each start.
Two Trims: Expression and Journey
Both trims use the same 60 kW motor, 27.5 kWh battery, and 6.6 kW AC charger. Four exterior colors are offered: Agave, Shadow Grey, Diamond Black, and Glacier White.
- Expression: 15-inch Mura steel wheels with covers, remote central locking, electric front windows and mirrors, manual air conditioning, automatic headlights, rear parking sensors, Media Control system with USB-C port and smartphone holder, split trunk floor, three YouClip points, fabric upholstery
- Journey: adds 16-inch Drava steel wheels, hands-free card, rear camera, Media Nav Live with 10.1-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, eight years of connected navigation with European maps, two USB-C ports, an additional YouClip point, luggage cover, and TEP/fabric upholstery
Dacia anticipates the full range will be priced below £18,000 (roughly $24,400) before any government subsidies, with full UK pricing and specifications to follow. That positions the new car above the current-generation model, which starts at £12,240 in the UK with the brand’s Electric Car Grant.
