Škoda Motorsport has unveiled the Enyaq RS Race, an all-electric racing car concept developed as a pilot project to explore sustainable technologies for future production models. Based on the Enyaq Coupé vRS, this concept integrates lightweight biocomposite parts, significantly reducing its weight and optimizing aerodynamics for enhanced performance. The Enyaq RS Race reflects Škoda’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in motorsport, utilizing advanced materials and design improvements.
Key Highlights
- All-electric concept car based on Škoda Enyaq Coupé vRS.
- Weight reduction of 316 kg through biocomposite parts.
- Aerodynamic optimizations including widened, lowered chassis, redesigned bumpers, and a new rear diffuser.
- Advanced safety features such as racing seats, a roll cage, and enhanced braking systems.
- Sustainable flax fiber components replacing carbon fiber for body and interior elements.
Škoda Motorsport’s latest development, the Enyaq RS Race, is rooted in the brand’s racing DNA and focuses on the advancement of electrified motorsport. Utilizing sustainable biocomposite materials, such as flax fibers, the concept car showcases the potential for lightweight, environmentally-friendly alternatives that maintain the benefits of carbon fiber. These components have contributed to an impressive weight savings of 316 kg compared to the original Enyaq Coupé vRS.
The Enyaq RS Race incorporates several visual and technical upgrades, including a wider, lowered chassis, redesigned bumpers, and an aerodynamically optimized roof with a large rear wing. It is 70 mm lower and wider at both the front and rear, enhancing its stability and aerodynamic performance. The concept also features a high-performance braking system with carbon-ceramic brake discs and additional cooling, ensuring the vehicle can handle the rigors of racing.
Safety is a key focus of the Enyaq RS Race, incorporating elements like a roll cage made of chrome-molybdenum steel, racing seats, and an automatic fire extinguisher system. The design also features darkened headlights with the Škoda Motorsport logo and a newly integrated high-performance sound system to enhance the authentic motorsport experience.
The use of sustainable materials, including Bcomp’s PowerRibs™ technology, provides comparable rigidity to carbon fiber while reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 85%. This innovative approach underscores Škoda’s dedication to advancing sustainable racing technologies and reducing the environmental impact of its vehicles.
Developed in-house by Škoda Motorsport, the Enyaq RS Race represents a significant step forward for electrified motorsport and serves as a testing ground for future sustainable innovations in the automotive sector. As Škoda continues to push the boundaries of performance and sustainability, the Enyaq RS Race stands as a testament to the brand’s commitment to leading the charge in the world of electric racing.
