The analysis, powered by Clear Vehicle Data, examines over 600 new and near-new cars in the UK in 2025. It uses official manufacturer servicing costs, covering all model variations—body styles, trims, gearboxes, and powertrains. This thorough approach ensures the findings reflect real-world expenses accurately.
EVs save money due to their straightforward design. Unlike gasoline or diesel vehicles, they have fewer moving parts, reducing wear and tear. EVs skip oil changes, and regenerative braking extends the life of brake systems, cutting maintenance needs further.
Specific examples highlight the savings. The Vauxhall Corsa Electric costs 31% less to service in its first three years and 32% less from years three to five compared to its gasoline version. The Fiat 500e saves 34% early on and 31% later. The all-electric MINI Countryman reduces costs by 18% initially and 22% in later years.
These savings matter most for fleet managers and high-mileage drivers. The Car Expert’s Expert Rating Index uses this data, alongside insurance and emissions factors, to guide consumers and businesses in choosing cost-effective vehicles.
