Subaru Europe has become the first client to place funds through MUFG Bank (Europe) N.V.’s new Green Deposit offering in the European Union. Subaru Europe announced the placement this week. The company describes it as a further step in building sustainability into its business activities as it rolls out fully electric vehicles across Europe. Through MUFG’s Green Deposits rollout in the EU, the deposited funds go toward financing projects and activities that benefit the environment.
How Does MUFG’s Green Deposit Framework Work?
Subaru Europe will place funds within MUFG’s Green Deposit framework, which directs the money toward eligible sustainable activities. According to the release, eligible categories include:
- Renewable energy
- Energy efficiency
- Clean transportation
- Biodiversity
- Sustainable land use and natural-resource management
- Sustainable water and wastewater management
- Green buildings
- Eco-efficient and circular-economy products, technologies, and processes
- Climate-change adaptation initiatives
Timed to Subaru’s European EV Rollout
The company says the deposit comes at an important moment for Subaru in Europe. It is speeding up the rollout of a new generation of fully electric vehicles across the European market and growing its base of EV customers.
David Dello Stritto, Subaru Europe General Manager Marketing & PR, echoed a recent statement by Subaru Europe Vice President Keigo Ino:
“Subaru’s global ambition is to be more than a car company. This means taking responsibility for the world in which our customers live. As we enter a new chapter with our growing range of fully electric vehicles in Europe, participating in MUFG’s Green Deposit initiative is a natural extension of this commitment. As the first client to place funds through MUFG’s Green Deposit initiative in the EU, we are pleased to support a scheme that contributes to environmental projects while giving our growing EV community another meaningful way to connect with the values they share with Subaru. This is ‘Driven by What You Love’ in action – turning our commitment into something that creates value beyond the vehicle itself.”
Sustainability Beyond Vehicle Emissions
Subaru says its sustainability approach goes beyond cutting emissions from its products. It also covers the wider impact of the company’s activities. Those activities include automotive mobility, aerospace, and environmental initiatives.
Subaru Europe says the Green Deposit placement brings its electrification strategy, financial activities, and broader sustainability commitment together in one approach. The company also presents the initiative as a way to extend Subaru ownership beyond the vehicle as its European EV customer base grows.
