TALKE, a prominent logistics provider in the chemical sector, recently concluded a successful two-week trial with Hyzon’s Class 8 200kW Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) truck. This trial took place at TALKE USA’s Houston drayage operations, marking a pivotal advancement in the company’s pursuit of zero-emission logistics solutions.

Key Highlights:

  • The trial was part of TALKE’s broader evaluation of suppliers for potential large-scale deployment of FCEV trucks.
  • It followed a previous successful trial with Hyzon’s 110kW model two years prior.
  • The truck demonstrated superior performance in terms of power, noise reduction, and operational smoothness.

Richard Heath, President and CEO of TALKE, emphasized the trial’s significance in the context of TALKE’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals, stating, “This trial is a key part of TALKE’s preparations for zero-emission operations and aligns with our ongoing commitment to our global ESG program, #CraftingResponsibleLogistics.”

The feedback from TALKE’s drivers was notably positive. Timothy (Tim) Rivon, one of TALKE’s experienced drivers, commented, “I’ve been driving my whole life, even came out of retirement because I love it. Change can be tough, but you can’t beat the quieter ride and how smooth it drives.”

The trial’s success positions Hyzon’s Class 8 200kW FCEV truck favorably in TALKE’s evaluation process for future fleet expansions, particularly as TALKE considers various grant funding opportunities for deploying zero-emission vehicles. This initiative is part of a larger strategy to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations significantly.

Hyzon’s CEO, Parker Meeks, expressed enthusiasm about the trial results: “The success of this trial with TALKE aligns with the strong results we’ve seen across the seven other trials of our Class 8 200kW Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) truck. These consistent outcomes reinforce our confidence as we move toward full commercial activation, marking an exciting step forward in deploying hydrogen fuel cell solutions at scale.”

TALKE’s commitment to sustainability is not new. The company, founded in 1947, has grown to serve over half of the world’s top 50 chemical companies, employing 4,600 people across three continents. Its services span transport, packaging, storage, and handling of both hazardous and non-hazardous substances, with a strong emphasis on digital solutions and customized logistics processes.

Hyzon, on the other hand, focuses on providing high-performance hydrogen fuel cell technology aimed at decarbonizing heavy-duty sectors. The company’s technology is designed for robust applications, targeting markets like heavy-duty commercial vehicles and stationary power, thereby playing a crucial role in the transition to clean energy.

The successful trial not only underscores TALKE’s leadership in sustainable logistics but also highlights Hyzon’s technological prowess in the burgeoning hydrogen fuel cell market. As both companies look towards the future, their collaboration could set a benchmark for the logistics industry’s shift towards more sustainable practices.
