Tim Hortons Boosts EV Charging Access

Tim Hortons and FLO partner to install EV fast chargers at 100 Canadian restaurants by 2028, offering convenient, reliable charging with FLO Ultra technology.

Tim Hortons has partnered with FLO, a prominent North American electric vehicle (EV) charging company, to install fast chargers at 100 Canadian restaurants by 2028. This initiative positions Tim Hortons as the largest restaurant provider of public EV fast charging in Canada, enhancing convenience for EV drivers nationwide.

Key Highlights

  • Largest Restaurant EV Network: Tim Hortons will lead as Canada’s top restaurant chain for public EV fast charging by 2028.
  • Initial Rollout: The first FLO Ultra™ chargers are operational in Regina, Saskatchewan, with up to 14 locations planned by the end of 2025.
  • Expansion Goals: By 2026, 50 Tims restaurants will feature chargers, with an average of four ports per location.
  • Charging Speed: FLO Ultra chargers deliver up to 120 kilometers of range in 10 minutes, depending on EV and station configuration.
  • Nationwide Coverage: Installations are planned across all 10 Canadian provinces for coast-to-coast accessibility.
  • FLO Partnership: Backed by a $235 million investment from the Canada Infrastructure Bank, FLO ensures reliable charging with over 98% uptime.

A Strategic Partnership for EV Drivers

The collaboration between Tim Hortons and FLO aims to integrate EV charging seamlessly into daily routines. By placing FLO Ultra chargers at high-traffic Tim Hortons locations, the partnership ensures drivers can charge their vehicles while enjoying a coffee or meal. The first charging station is already operational at 3810 Chuka Boulevard in Regina, marking the start of a nationwide rollout. By the end of 2025, up to 13 additional locations will offer charging, with plans to reach 50 restaurants by 2026.

Hope Bagozzi, Chief Marketing Officer for Tim Hortons, emphasized the convenience this brings to customers: “Whether it’s grabbing a coffee and a charge before work or taking a break on a road trip, we want every Tims Run to be welcoming.” The initiative aligns with Tim Hortons’ commitment to enhancing guest experiences while supporting sustainable transportation.

FLO’s Role in EV Infrastructure

FLO, a Quebec-based leader in EV charging, brings its expertise to the partnership. The FLO Ultra chargers are designed for speed and reliability, offering a 98% uptime and compatibility with the FLO mobile app for easy access. Louis Tremblay, FLO’s President and CEO, highlighted the significance of the collaboration: “This partnership with Tim Hortons marks a pivotal moment in making EV charging a seamless part of everyday life for Canadians.”

The project is supported by a $235 million investment from the Canada Infrastructure Bank, enabling FLO to deploy over 1,900 public fast charging ports across Canada. This investment addresses range anxiety, a common concern for EV drivers, by expanding access to reliable charging infrastructure.

Impact on Canadian EV Adoption

The Tim Hortons-FLO partnership is a significant step toward supporting Canada’s transition to electric mobility. By 2028, the 100 charging stations will provide coast-to-coast coverage, making EV charging accessible at familiar and convenient locations. Ehren Cory, CEO of the Canada Infrastructure Bank, noted, “The partnership uniquely supports the large-scale deployment of charging stations, helping to address drivers’ range anxiety.”

This initiative not only promotes sustainable travel but also strengthens Tim Hortons’ role as a community hub. With nearly 4,000 restaurants across Canada, the chain’s widespread presence makes it an ideal partner for expanding EV infrastructure.
