Toyota has become an investor and founding member of IONNA, joining seven other automakers to support the development of a high-powered charging network. This partnership will grant Toyota and Lexus customers access to IONNA’s public network of DC fast chargers, which will be available from 2024. IONNA aims to install at least 30,000 charging ports by 2030, equipped with both NACS and CCS connectors to accommodate all BEV drivers.

Enhanced Charging Experience
Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) announced its investment in IONNA, underscoring the company’s commitment to improving BEV infrastructure. This strategic move aligns with Toyota’s goal to promote the adoption of electric vehicles and boost customer confidence in the technology. Ted Ogawa, President and CEO of TMNA, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “We believe this will not only promote the adoption of BEVs and increase customer confidence in the technology, but it will provide our Toyota and Lexus customers with access to IONNA’s rapidly growing charging network in North America.”
IONNA’s Commitment to Quality
IONNA’s dedication to providing a comprehensive customer experience is a significant factor in Toyota’s decision to partner with the charging network. Collaborative Effort
This partnership is part of a larger collaborative effort among eight original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to expand public charging infrastructure. Besides Toyota, IONNA’s founding partners include BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis.
Toyota’s Electric Vehicle Strategy
Toyota currently offers two BEV models in the U.S. and Canada: the Toyota bZ4X and the Lexus RZ. The company recently announced plans for two new three-row BEV SUVs to be assembled in Kentucky and Indiana. By 2030, Toyota aims to offer 30 BEV models globally and produce up to 3.5 million BEVs annually.
