TPEM, JLR Partner for Electric Vehicle Development

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd (TPEM) and Jaguar Land Rover Plc (JLR) have formalized a platform-sharing partnership. The two entities, both under the Tata Motors Limited (TML) umbrella, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which grants TPEM the license to utilize JLR’s Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA) platform. This is geared towards the advancement of TPEM’s ‘Avinya’ premium pure electric vehicle series. In addition, an Engineering Services Agreement (ESA) will be initiated to cater to TPEM’s specific needs for its inaugural vehicle’s development.

JLR’s EMA platform, set to roll out from 2025, is designed to support JLR’s upcoming mid-sized ‘pure electric’ SUVs for global markets. This platform boasts a design focused on amplifying interior comfort, space, and vision, supplemented by cutting-edge electrical and connectivity features. On the other hand, the ‘Avinya’ series, introduced in 2022, symbolizes the zenith of electric mobility, characterized by top-tier in-cabin experience, enhanced connectivity, and other advanced features. Incorporating JLR’s EMA platform is expected to amplify Avinya’s global appeal and future resilience.

Key Points:

  • TPEM secures licensing for JLR’s Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA) platform to advance ‘Avinya‘ series.
  • JLR’s EMA platform to launch from 2025, backing JLR’s new ‘pure electric’ SUVs.
  • ‘Avinya’ electric vehicles to benefit from advanced features, ensuring global competitiveness.

Bottom Line: With access to JLR’s EMA, TPEM can expedite its entry into the luxury EV market, potentially reducing development time and costs. This partnership not only symbolizes a merger of top-tier technologies but also fosters collaboration within the Tata Group. As a result of this collaboration, over 200 new job opportunities are projected to emerge in the UK, further intensifying the synergy between Tata Group branches.
