UL Solutions has issued its first European certification for a 400kW electric vehicle (EV) fast charger, marking a key milestone in the push for faster, more efficient EV charging technology. The certified charger, Alpitronic’s HYC400, is designed to support higher power and faster charging, making it an essential development for the growing demand in the EV market. This certification follows rigorous testing at UL’s EV Charging Test Center, and it ensures the charger’s safety and compliance with U.S. standards, signaling Alpitronic’s formal entry into the North American market.
Key Highlights:
- Alpitronic’s HYC400 is the first 400kW EV fast charger certified by UL Solutions in Europe.
- The charger meets the UL 2202 Standard for DC Charging Equipment for Electric Vehicles, allowing its entry into the North American market.
- Faster charging reduces the time required for EV charging, addressing a common concern for potential EV adopters.
- The charger was tested at UL’s EV Charging Test Center in Neu-Isenburg for compliance with safety and performance standards, including power verification, high voltage, and personal protection systems.
- UL Solutions’ certification process ensures safety, reliability, and performance, key factors in gaining user confidence in the rapidly expanding EV charging infrastructure.
The rapid growth of electric mobility globally is driving the need for more efficient EV charging solutions. Governments worldwide are setting policies to increase the number of EVs on the road by 2030, further fueling the demand for high-power charging stations. Between 2014 and 2024, the electric vehicle charging infrastructure industry has seen remarkable growth, particularly in the expansion of fast charging networks.
Phillip Senoner, co-founder, CEO, and chairman of Alpitronic, noted, “Our UL Solutions achievement is a major step forward for fast charging and helps unlock further EV adoption by making charging more efficient and convenient. Certification to UL 2202 for the HYC400 gives our partners confidence that this equipment delivers as promised regarding safety and performance.”
The UL Solutions Neu-Isenburg EV Charging Test Center is part of a larger global network, supporting the electrification of transportation with multiple testing laboratories around the world, including:
- Battery testing labs in Aachen, Germany, and Pyeongtaek, South Korea
- Electric vehicle charging labs in Northbrook, Illinois, and Fremont, California
- Energy and mobility labs in Madrid, Spain, Changzhou, China, and Luzhu, Taiwan
- CHAdeMO EV-Quick Charger Center in Ise, Mie, Japan
