ADS-TEC Energy and AVIA have announced a strategic partnership to deploy advanced fast-charging solutions for electric vehicles (EVs) at gas stations across Germany. This collaboration aims to enhance the EV charging infrastructure by leveraging innovative technology that allows for ultra-fast charging capabilities, even in locations with limited grid capacity.
Key Highlights
- Partnership between ADS-TEC Energy and AVIA to install fast-charging EV stations at gas stations in Germany.
- Utilization of ChargePost systems that enable ultra-fast charging up to 300 kW, even with low-powered grid connections.
- Integration of a 45 kWp photovoltaic system at the Bocholt location for enhanced energy efficiency.
- Implementation of intelligent load management to optimize energy use and charging operations.
- Exploration of digital out-of-home advertising (DOOH) on charging stations as an additional revenue stream.
Electric vehicle adoption is on the rise, but one of the biggest challenges remains the availability of fast and convenient charging options. Recognizing this, AVIA, which operates over 800 gas stations in Germany, has partnered with ADS-TEC Energy, a leader in battery-based energy storage and fast-charging systems. Together, they are installing ChargePost fast-charging stations at select AVIA locations, making it easier for EV drivers to charge their vehicles quickly and efficiently.
What sets ChargePost apart is its ability to deliver ultra-fast charging speeds of up to 300 kW, even in areas where the power grid is not robust. This is made possible by the system’s integrated battery storage, which stores energy and releases it rapidly when needed. Additionally, intelligent load management ensures that the available grid power is used optimally, allowing for flexible and efficient charging operations.
At the AVIA gas station in Bocholt, the partnership has taken sustainability a step further by integrating a 45 kWp photovoltaic (PV) system. This solar setup generates clean energy on-site, which is then used to power the charging stations and other operations. The entire building’s technology has been modernized to maximize energy efficiency, showcasing a model for how existing infrastructure can be adapted for a greener future.
Another innovative feature of the ChargePost systems is the inclusion of large digital screens, which can be used for digital out-of-home advertising (DOOH). At the Blomberg location, a 75-inch display has already been installed, and plans are underway to develop marketing strategies for these advertising spaces. This not only enhances the customer experience but also provides AVIA with an additional revenue stream, making the investment in charging infrastructure even more attractive.
Thomas Speidel, CEO and founder of ADS-TEC Energy, emphasized the importance of this collaboration: “The integration of fast charging infrastructure at existing refueling stations requires intelligent solutions – especially when grid connections are limited. With our ChargePost and innovative load management, we enable ultra-fast charging without costly grid infrastructure upgrades. The joint project with AVIA shows how modern charging infrastructure can be seamlessly integrated into existing locations and create new opportunities for the mobility of the future.”
In conclusion, the partnership between ADS-TEC Energy and AVIA represents a significant step forward in making EV charging more accessible and efficient. By combining cutting-edge technology with sustainable practices, they are not only supporting the transition to electric mobility but also setting a precedent for how traditional gas stations can evolve in the age of renewable energy.
