What’s Happening
Vietnamese automaker VinFast has announced the successful delivery of its second shipment of electric vehicles to the United States. The delivery, comprised of 1,879 VF 8 models, docked at the Port of Benicia in California. VinFast plans to start deliveries of these vehicles to U.S. customers in June 2023.
Why It Matters
This second batch solely consists of VF 8 vehicles, recognized for their extended battery range compared to the initial shipment of VF 8 City Edition vehicles imported last year. The VF 8 has a certificated EPA range of 264 miles for the Eco trim and 243 miles for the Plus trim per full charge. This enhancement, demonstrating VinFast’s commitment to EV technology, could potentially contribute to the company’s market competitiveness.
Key Points
VinFast has priced the VF 8 Eco and Plus models at $46,000 and $51,800 respectively, inclusive of the battery. The company offers flexible financial options, including lease and loan terms, with potential incentives for VinFirst Pioneer customers.
Moreover, starting from May 2023, eligible customers who lease the VF 8 City Edition could transition to the VF 8, maintaining the same trim (Eco or Plus) after 12 months. The continued lease term will be 24 months with identical lease payments.
In terms of warranty, the VF 8 comes with an impressive 10-year warranty for the vehicle and the battery, alongside mobile services and 24/7 emergency roadside assistance during the warranty period.
Bottom Line
Madam Le Thi Thu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of Vingroup and Chairwoman of VinFast, expressed confidence in the company’s business strategy and commitment to global customers. She stated that with continued customer trust and support, VinFast is poised to accelerate the shift to electrified mobility, paving the way for a greener, sustainable future.
VinFast, having received an EPA Certificate of Conformity (COC) and an Executive Order from the California Air Resources Board (CARB), is cleared to import and sell vehicles in the U.S. The company is in compliance with all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) set by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Initially, VinFast plans to deliver 1,098 of the VF 8 vehicles to the U.S. market, with the remaining 781 destined for Canada, expected to arrive by mid-May 2023.
