Vitesco Technologies, a frontrunner in the field of modern drive technologies and electrification solutions, announced its latest advancement: the High Voltage Box. This innovative modular system is set to revolutionize the electric vehicle (EV) market by making the charging, conversion, and power distribution processes more economical. By amalgamating several functionalities into a single unit, the system supports up to 800 V system voltage and caters to the growing demand for efficient energy management in EVs.
The High Voltage Box distinguishes itself by integrating an On-Board Charger (OBC) for AC charging, a DC current converter, and power electronics within one compact design. This integration not only saves space but also enhances system reliability and reduces manufacturing costs. The use of cutting-edge silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors elevates charging efficiency above 95%, significantly reducing electricity costs for vehicle owners.
Thomas Stierle, Member of the Executive Board and head of the Electrification Solutions division at Vitesco Technologies, emphasized the system’s importance: “On a day-to-day level, charging, energy conversion, and power distribution are just as relevant for a driver’s satisfaction with a vehicle as driving itself is. With our High Voltage Box, we integrate these core tasks of energy management into one efficient and compact unit.”
Currently in series development for two car manufacturers, the High Voltage Box also offers an optional version that supports alternating current for on-the-go charging or for feeding into the power grid. This feature is poised to add versatility for EV owners, enabling the use of their vehicle’s battery for external power needs, such as powering tools away from the grid or supplying electricity back to the grid from renewable sources.

The High Voltage Box’s modular and scalable design is engineered to accommodate various global grid topologies, ensuring its applicability across different markets. Christian Preis, Head of Base Development Energy Transformation at Vitesco Technologies, highlighted the system’s sustainability impact: “A high level of efficiency brings the car owner’s electricity bill down and contributes to sustainability.”
Looking ahead, Vitesco Technologies is exploring the potential of a bidirectional High Voltage Box that could power a household during a blackout, showcasing the company’s commitment to innovation and its role in shaping the future of electrification.
