A Modern Tribute to a Cult Classic

The ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE pays homage to the cult classic Golf II Fire and Ice, which became a surprise success decades ago. To honor the year the original was launched, production is strictly limited to 1,990 vehicles. This special model marks another milestone for Volkswagen Saxony, which initiated the Volkswagen Group’s transition to electric mobility with the first ID.3 in late 2019. Danny Auerswald, Spokesman of the Board of Management at Volkswagen Saxony, expressed his confidence that this special edition will “follow on seamlessly from the surprise success of the 1990s.” Pricing for the exclusive model starts from €56,020 in Germany.

Performance and Specifications

The ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE offers impressive performance credentials. Buyers can choose between two powerful motor options, a 210 kW (286 PS) version and a more potent 240 kW (326 PS) model. Both configurations generate a maximum torque of 545 Nm. The higher-output variant can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 200 km/h.

Power is supplied by a 79 kWh (net) lithium-ion battery. At DC quick-charging stations, it can charge at speeds of up to 185 kW, allowing the battery to go from 10% to 80% in approximately 26 minutes. The combined WLTP range is estimated to be up to 591 km. The sports DCC chassis comes standard on the 240 kW version and is available as an option for the 210 kW model.

A Global Success ‘Made in Saxony’

The ID.3 is considered a “Saxony original” and a symbol of the region’s innovative strength. Uwe Kunstmann, Chairman of the General Works Council of Volkswagen Saxony, noted that attractive special models like the FIRE+ICE help ensure customer demand, thereby securing production capacity and employment. Since production began in 2019, over 350,000 ID.3 vehicles have been manufactured in Zwickau and Dresden.

The model is now available in nearly 40 countries worldwide, reaching markets as distant as La Réunion and French Guiana. The sporty GTX models account for approximately one in every ten ID.3 vehicles sold, highlighting strong customer interest in performance-oriented electric mobility.
