Independent company to be founded to design, engineer, and manufacture pick-up and rugged SUV (R-SUV) for the U.S. market

Wolfsburg – The United States will see the launch of an all-electric pickup truck and rugged SUV by Volkswagen Group. Today, the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen Group confirmed the Board of Management’s decision.

American customers will benefit from the American-designed, engineered, and manufactured vehicles. As the Volkswagen Group’s iconic Scout brand moves into electric vehicles, an independent, separate company will be set up in the U.S. Next year will see the first prototypes, with production expected to begin in 2026. A new platform concept will allow for electrified Scout brands to be built. It brings new pickup and RUV credibility to the Volkswagen Group portfolio.

“After Volkswagen’s successful turnaround in the U.S., we are now taking the opportunity to further strengthen our position in one of the most significant growth markets for EVs. Electrification provides a historic opportunity to enter the highly attractive pick-up and R-SUV segment as a Group, underscoring our ambition to become a relevant player in the U.S. market.” – Herbert Diess, CEO Volkswagen AG

The R-SUV and pick-up segments are key to increasing profitability and achieving the targeted market share. Volkswagen Group continues to expand its presence in one of the most important global growth markets.

“The company we will establish this year will be a separate unit and brand within the Volkswagen Group to be managed independently. This aligns with the new Group steering model – small units that act agilely and have access to our tech platforms to leverage synergies.” – Arno Antlitz, CFO Volkswagen AG
