Powertrain and Range
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles pairs the eHybrid’s 2.5-liter petrol engine with an electric motor and an 11.8kWh battery to produce a combined 232PS (229 hp) through a CVT transmission, the company says. The setup delivers an electric-only range of up to 35 miles depending on body style, with the battery recharging from 0-100% in 4.5 hours via a 3.7kW AC charger. The range figure reflects Europe’s WLTP testing cycle, which typically yields higher results than the EPA methodology used in the US.
This marks the first time Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has offered the Transporter as a plug-in hybrid, the company says. The Shuttle variant emits less than 95 g/km of CO2 on the combined WLTP cycle (weighted), while the Panel Van carries a 2,496-lb (1,132 kg) payload and a 5,071-lb (2,300 kg) towing rating.
