Voltpost’s lamppost EV chargers are coming to Connecticut, partnering with public and private entities to boost charger access and support the state’s electrification goals. Selected by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), Voltpost will deploy 50 stations with 100 ports over 18 months, tackling the state’s urgent need for EV infrastructure. This initiative promises quicker, cheaper, and greener charging solutions by retrofitting existing lampposts.
Key Highlights
- Deployment Scope: 50 stations, 100 ports, set for completion by Q4 2026.
- Partners Involved: Collaborates with Eversource, United Illuminating (UI), Capitol Clean Cities, and Live Green Connecticut.
- Community Focus: 20% of chargers target disadvantaged areas, reducing 200 metric tons of carbon yearly.
- Job Creation: Local, W/MBE-certified businesses will handle installations.

Connecticut faces a pressing demand for EV chargers. By 2030, state agencies must switch entirely to electric fleet vehicles, but only 1.2% of registered vehicles are currently electric. To meet 2025 goals, 1,500 additional ports are needed. Voltpost’s modular platform slashes deployment time and costs, leveraging existing lampposts for Level 2 charging. PURA chose Voltpost for its innovative approach to support the state’s shift from gas to electric.
“This deployment will expand access to EV chargers for the people of Connecticut, boosting EV adoption and supporting the state’s transition to a renewable energy-based transportation system,” said Jeffrey Prosserman, CEO and Co-Founder of Voltpost. The project aligns with Voltpost’s mission to decarbonize mobility and make charging equitable.

Partners like UI, a subsidiary of Avangrid, emphasize sustainability. “Expanding EV charging infrastructure is a key step toward building a greener and more sustainable future for the communities we serve,” said Sean Sullivan, Director of Clean Energy Policy at Avangrid. Site selection will prioritize equity, analyzing factors like EV ownership, air quality, and grid capacity.
Beyond infrastructure, Voltpost boosts local economies by hiring Connecticut-based firms, focusing on underserved areas. The initiative supports cleaner air and reduced emissions, targeting a 200-metric-ton carbon cut annually in low-income zones. With completion slated for Q4 2026, this project marks a milestone in Connecticut’s electrification journey.
