EVgo and Regency Centers are expanding their partnership with plans to add more than 400 fast charging stalls at Regency shopping centers across the United States, a buildout the companies expect to grow Regency’s EV infrastructure footprint by more than 20%. EVgo installed its first charger at a Regency property in 2020 and now operates more than 150 stalls at Regency locations, according to the company. The new stalls are slated for grocery-anchored retail centers in metropolitan markets, extending a relationship the two companies say has grown steadily over six years.

Where Will the New EVgo Stalls Be Located?
The new stalls are expected to land at retail centers in metropolitan areas of Colorado, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and other states. The companies did not specify a timeline for the rollout or a breakdown of stalls by state.
Regency’s properties sit in high-density markets and are anchored by grocery tenants, which the companies position as a natural fit for public fast charging. Citing Mobility Plaza data, the release notes that supermarkets and shopping centers rank as the top preferred charging location and that roughly half of drivers who stop at a site enter the adjacent retail or food space.
“EV drivers are looking for convenient charging options where they already spend their time, like grocery-anchored shopping centers,” said Scott Levitan, Executive Vice President, Growth at EVgo. “Expanding our partnership with Regency will help us meet growing customer demand while making public fast charging more accessible in the places people shop, dine and connect with their communities.”
Site Configuration and Charging Speed
Each new site built through the partnership will feature up to 24 high-power EVgo chargers. EVgo says the chargers are capable of delivering a full charge in as little as 15 minutes, depending on the vehicle.
The companies tie that charging window to grocery-trip behavior, citing FMI data that the average American household visits a grocery store two to three times per week and Food Institute data putting the average dwell time at 23 minutes. The announcement follows EVgo’s expanded Kroger partnership earlier this year, which similarly targets grocery locations with high-power stalls.
How the Regency Partnership Has Grown
The expansion builds on a relationship that began with a single charger in 2020. By mid-2024, the two companies had opened more than 120 stalls at roughly 40 Regency properties; EVgo now puts the figure above 150 stalls.
“Expanding our EVgo partnership grows Regency’s EV charging footprint and gives more drivers reliable, convenient access to fast charging at the properties where they already shop and dine,” said Mark Peternell, VP of Sustainability at Regency Centers. “Increasing access to fast charging like this supports the widespread adoption of EVs and advances our broader sustainability goals.”
EVgo operates more than 1,200 fast charging stations across 47 states, according to the company, working with retailers, grocers, restaurants, shopping centers, gas stations, rideshare operators and autonomous vehicle companies as site hosts. Regency Centers is an S&P 500 real estate investment trust focused on grocery-anchored shopping centers in suburban trade areas.
