Volvo Car USA achieves best sales month ever for Recharge EVs and PHEVs

Volvo April Recharge (EV and PHEV) sales up 156 percent in the U.S. over 2021

MAHWAH, NJ – Volvo Car USA achieved an all-time sales record for its fully electric and plug-in hybrid cars in April as U.S. sales rose for the third consecutive month, finishing up 156 percent over the same period last year. Overall Volvo Car USA sold 10,022 cars during the month, down 9.2 percent despite continued supply constraints and other industry challenges.

The company’s Recharge models (EVs and PHEVs) represented 44.1 percent of total U.S. sales in April, an 18 point increase over April 2021. In California, Recharge sales were up nearly 66 percent and accounted for more than 71 percent of total sales – a 17 point increase — over the same period last year.

In Canada, sales of Recharge models rose 125.8 percent year-to-date over the same period last year and accounted for 31.6 percent of total sales in April. Overall sales increased 1.3 percent over April 2021.

Latin American markets together saw a 24 percent increase in overall sales for April, with Recharge models making up 56.7 percent of the volume.

The Volvo Car Americas region as a whole saw 12,472 cars sold in April, down 5.5 percent from the same period last year, while year-to-date sales of Recharge models increased 76.8 percent over the same period last year with 14,223 cars sold.
