Wallbox Powers Western Canada EV Network

Wallbox's 180 kW fast chargers will power SureCharge Corp.’s new public EV network across Western Canada. The government-backed project will establish 96 charging points, improving charging access in the region.

Wallbox, a global provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging and energy management solutions, announced that its Supernova 180 kW DC fast chargers will be deployed in a new public charging network built by SureCharge Corp. across Alberta and British Columbia. The project will establish a significant regional fast charging hub along key travel corridors.

Key Highlights

  • Charger Deployment: Wallbox Supernova 180 kW DC fast chargers will power the new network.
  • Network Operator: SureCharge Corp. is leading the development of the public charging infrastructure.
  • Geographic Scope: The network will span key transportation routes in Alberta and British Columbia.
  • Project Scale: The initiative will create up to 24 high-speed charging sites with 96 charging points.
  • Government Support: The project is backed by over $4.7 million from the Government of Canada and $400,000 from the Government of British Columbia.
  • Timeline: The first charging sites are anticipated to go live by late 2025.

Project Scope and Funding

The project aims to establish an extensive fast charging hub in Western Canada. The rollout is being led by SureCharge, with SureTek Electric & Technologies Ltd., a certified Wallbox partner, handling installation, commissioning, and maintenance.

This initiative is supported by significant government investment. Funding includes over $4.7 million from the Government of Canada through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program. Additionally, the Government of British Columbia contributed $400,000 through a partnership with Natural Resources Canada to support the expansion.

“These chargers give peace of mind to current EV drivers, and helps address charging anxiety for those considering an EV purchase in the near future,” said the Honourable Tim Hodgson, Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.

B.C.’s Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions, Adrian Dix, added, “Supporting this network not only addresses charging gaps today but also lays the foundation for the next generation of drivers in Western Canada.”

Technology and Collaboration

Each site will feature Wallbox’s Supernova fast charging solution, designed to deliver up to 180 kW of power to support long-distance travel. The Supernova is engineered for scalability and efficiency, enabling reliable charging while optimizing ownership costs for network operators.

“This deployment demonstrates how advanced charging technology and local expertise can accelerate the adoption of electric mobility,” said Douglas Alfaro, Chief Business Development Officer at Wallbox.

SureCharge utilizes a vertically integrated model with in-house installers and a dedicated maintenance team to provide turnkey solutions. This initiative marks a long-term collaboration combining product innovation and infrastructure deployment.

“This project is about opening up the map for EV drivers in Western Canada,” stated Michael Palarchio, Vice-President at SureCharge Corp. “By building a network that’s owned, installed, and maintained by Western Canadians, we’re not just supporting EV adoption — we’re creating a locally powered solution that works for the people who live, work, and travel here.”

Network Expansion and Locations

The first SureCharge sites are expected to be operational by late 2025, beginning with hubs in Red Deer, Lacombe, and Enoch Cree Nation. The network will then expand across Alberta and into British Columbia, targeting high-traffic corridors and underserved regions.

Planned locations include Whitecourt, Grande Prairie, Jasper, Fort St. John, Fernie, and Edson. The network will also serve smaller communities such as Grand Cache, Hinton, Rocky Mountain House, Valleyview, and Diamond Valley, ensuring broad coverage across northern, central, and southern Alberta. This rollout is the first phase of a larger initiative enabled by partnerships with retail, hospitality, and convenience brands.
