Workhorse Group Inc., an American technology company leading the charge toward zero-emission commercial vehicles, has secured new purchase orders for its W56 electric step vans. The orders come from three parcel delivery independent service providers and were received in the 30 days following Workhorse’s participation at the FedEx Forward Service Provider Summit. The orders include seven W56 electric trucks, which consist of both the standard 178” wheelbase (offering 1,000 cubic feet of cargo space) and the extended 208” wheelbase (offering 1,200 cubic feet of cargo space). All units are expected to be delivered by year-end.

Key Highlights:

  • New Orders: Seven W56 electric step vans ordered by three independent service providers.
  • High Demand: Increase in fleet interest and additional units in quoting process.
  • Demos in California: Multiple demonstrations conducted at FedEx terminals across California.
  • Built in the USA: W56 vans are designed, engineered, and built at Workhorse Ranch in Union City, Indiana.

Following the FedEx Forward event, Workhorse reported increased interest from parcel delivery fleets, leading to multiple demos at terminal depots in California where FedEx has already installed electric charging infrastructure. With more interest brewing, additional W56 units are currently in the quoting process, reflecting the growing trend toward electrification of fleet vehicles. Fleet operators have shown interest in the W56 as a reliable, zero-emission solution suitable for urban routes, rural deliveries, and routes requiring greater cargo capacity.

Ryan Gaul, President of Commercial Vehicles at Workhorse, commented: “As parcel delivery fleets transition to zero-emission vehicles, we believe the W56 is an ideal fit. We understand the importance of uptime for parcel operators, especially during the busy holiday season. That’s why we back our vehicles with a robust service and support network through our certified dealers and national service partners, which helps keep trucks on the road and deliveries on time.”

Designed and manufactured in the United States, the Workhorse W56 is built to meet the demands of modern last-mile delivery services. The W56 step van’s capabilities include an eAxle electric drivetrain combined with highly efficient regenerative braking, which offers extended range and significant operational efficiency. These features make the W56 particularly suitable for stop-and-go delivery routes, common in urban areas.

The company’s emphasis on quality, performance, and support aims to ensure a smooth transition to electrification for fleet operators. The W56’s two cargo options (1,000 and 1,200 cubic feet) provide flexibility and reliability, making Workhorse a key partner for fleets seeking effective, zero-emission solutions in last-mile logistics.
