Workhorse Group Inc. recently completed a successful 1,000-mile demonstration of its W56 electric step van. The journey, spanning from Cincinnati, Ohio to Orlando, Florida, highlighted the vehicle’s reliability, durability, and real-world performance in various challenging conditions. This demonstration coincided with Workhorse’s participation in the FedEx Forward Service Provider Summit, where the W56 was showcased for its innovative features and suitability for last-mile delivery services. Throughout the trip, the W56 handled diverse terrains, harsh weather, and highway stretches while maintaining its efficiency and charging speed.

Key Highlights

  • 1,000+ mile real-world demonstration from Cincinnati to Orlando, including over 900 miles of highway travel.
  • 150+ mile range supported by fast-charging at public Level 3 charging stations.
  • 27 MPGe efficiency with regenerative braking, even under limited regenerative opportunities on highways.
  • Successfully navigated through strong winds and heavy rain from Hurricane Helene, proving its resilience.

The W56 journey started at the Workhorse Ranch in Union City, Indiana, passing through Cincinnati before covering nearly 1,000 miles to Orlando. Despite facing hurricane-induced weather challenges, the electric vehicle demonstrated its robustness, completing the three-day trip with consistent performance. Regenerative braking and fast charging were key contributors to the W56’s overall efficiency, making it well-suited for long-distance travel.

This real-world test not only underscored the W56’s performance but also aligned with Workhorse’s goal of transitioning to zero-emission commercial vehicles. By participating in the FedEx Forward Service Provider Summit, Workhorse took the opportunity to highlight the seamless integration of the W56 into last-mile delivery fleets. The invitation-only event allowed Workhorse to exhibit its cutting-edge electric vehicle technology to key industry stakeholders.

Workhorse President of Commercial Vehicles, Ryan Gaul, emphasized the success of the journey: “Our trip from Cincinnati to Orlando demonstrates that the W56 is built to meet our customers’ needs and the demands of their businesses.” The Ride & Drive demonstrations at the summit further provided a hands-on experience of the W56’s capabilities, reinforcing Workhorse’s position as an industry leader in electric vehicle innovation.

Workhorse’s W56 continues to be a game-changing addition to the electric vehicle market, offering best-in-class performance and efficiency while promoting sustainability for the future of commercial transportation.
