WS Development has entered a strategic partnership with Electrify America to install Hyper-Fast electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across its national retail portfolio. The collaboration aims to integrate high-speed charging infrastructure into mixed-use destinations, allowing visitors to power their vehicles during routine shopping and dining visits. Initial installations are scheduled to begin this winter at several Massachusetts locations.
Highlights
- National Expansion: Hyper-Fast charging stations will be deployed at over 15 WS Development properties across the U.S.
- Initial Launch: Installations begin in early 2026 at three key Massachusetts sites, including The Shops at Blackstone Valley.
- White Label Integration: WS Development will utilize Electrify America’s technology while operating its own branded charging network.
- Network Access: Stations will be fully integrated into the Electrify America app for seamless location and payment.
Strategic Infrastructure Expansion
The rollout targets high-traffic retail environments in states including Massachusetts, New York, Florida, Illinois, and California. By leveraging Electrify America’s white label solutions, WS Development can manage a custom charging network while utilizing established hardware and software standards.
The first phase of the project focuses on three Massachusetts destinations:
- The Shops at Blackstone Valley (Millbury)
- Walmart Plaza (Salem)
- The Street Chestnut Hill (Chestnut Hill)
Technical Specifications and Performance
Electrify America operates the largest open DC fast-charging network in the United States. The infrastructure provided to WS Development properties will include chargers capable of delivering up to 350 kW, supporting the fastest charging speeds currently available for modern EV architectures.
To ensure reliability, the network utilizes a Technology Campus for rigorous interoperability testing across dozens of vehicle brands. Additionally, many sites incorporate battery energy storage systems (BESS) to manage peak electrical loads and reduce strain on local power grids.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
This partnership aligns with WS Development’s broader environmental goals. In 2023, the firm committed to powering its New England portfolio with 100 percent renewable electricity. The inclusion of high-speed EV infrastructure further supports the transition to zero-emission transportation by providing essential charging access in urban and community hubs.
