Blink Charging Enhances EV Charging Accessibility with NACS Integration Across All Products

What’s Happening

Blink Charging Co., a prominent international provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging equipment and services, has pledged to improve EV charging access across all vehicle models. The company will do this by incorporating both the North America Charging Standard (NACS) and the Combined Charging System (CCS) into its complete product line, as part of its commitment to the Biden Administration’s Buy America program. Blink also announced its plans for additional US manufacturing facilities.

Why It Matters

This strategy signifies a vital step forward for Blink as it strives to keep pace with the rapidly growing demand for zero-emission vehicles. It positions Blink as a leader in the field, committed to delivering universally compatible EV charging solutions that cater to all vehicle makes and models. The integration of NACS connectors into their chargers will provide solutions tailored to customers of GM, Ford, Rivian, and Volvo, among others.

Key Points

Blink is set to start manufacturing NACS DCFC chargers in October 2023. Further, the company plans to include NACS in its Level 2 (L2) chargers, which account for around 90% of EV charging use in the US. This inclusion aims to create a seamless EV charging experience and reduce driver confusion. The new dual NACS and 1772 units are projected to be launched in early 2024 from Blink’s Bowie, MD manufacturing facility.

Bottom Line

The ability to adapt and enhance product lines efficiently is a key determinant of success in the competitive EV charging market. Blink’s move to incorporate NACS connectors demonstrates their capacity to meet the diverse needs of EV drivers, whether it’s a Tesla Model S driver needing to connect to a NACS charger or a Chevy Bolt driver requiring a quick charge via a CCS charger. As projections indicate that half of all new car sales could be electric by 2030, resulting in a demand for more than 30 million EV chargers, Blink’s commitment to accessibility and universal compatibility sets a strong precedent in this emerging market.
