BMW is expanding its electric mobility innovations into watersports with the introduction of a new electric stand-up paddleboard (e-SUP). The product, named the BMW x SipaBoards, results from a collaboration with the Slovenian manufacturer and market leader, SipaBoards. This self-inflating board combines electric drive technology, high-grade materials, and digital connectivity, marking BMW’s first electrically powered product designed for water activities. The visual design was handled by BMW Group Designworks.
Key Highlights
- A collaborative effort between BMW and watersports manufacturer SipaBoards.
- Features a self-inflating design and an integrated 300-watt electric motor.
- Achieves speeds up to 7.5 km/h (4 knots) with a near-silent, emission-free drivetrain.
- Controlled via a Bluetooth remote built into the carbon-fiber paddle.
- The board is designed to carry up to two people.
- Available with two swappable battery configurations for varied riding times.

A New Dimension in Paddleboarding
Stand-up paddleboarding has emerged as a popular modern sport, appealing to both novices and experienced enthusiasts. The BMW x SipaBoards enhances this experience by adding electric assistance, connectivity, and intuitive control for a new level of mobility on the water.
At the core of the e-SUP is an integrated motor generating up to 300 watts of power. This system provides additional thrust, making it easier to paddle against headwinds or currents. The emission-free, near-silent drivetrain, featuring a propeller developed specifically for BMW, offers a unique riding experience. The motor also serves a dual purpose by automatically inflating the board before use. Energy is supplied by swappable battery modules available in different capacities to meet individual needs.
Innovative Technology and Safety Features
The e-SUP is built with a specially developed X-woven drop-stitch core, giving it exceptional structural rigidity and stability. Operation is managed through a new user interface (UI) with a Bluetooth remote control integrated into the paddle, its design inspired by the BMW Neue Klasse. This remote allows the rider to activate FREUDE Mode for extra power, light effects, and haptic feedback.
Additional functionality is available through a smartphone app, which allows for route planning, battery monitoring, and GPS tracking. A key safety feature is the automatic power cut-off, triggered by a Bluetooth signal. If the paddle falls into the water, the motor immediately cuts power, ensuring the board remains under control.

Design, Capacity, and Materials
The board and its all-carbon-fiber paddle combine robustness with a lightweight design for a premium on-water experience. The board measures 3.65 m long, 0.82 m wide, 0.15 m thick, and weighs 10.9 kilograms (14.9 kg with the motor). It is designed with enough capacity to carry two people.
The overall design, developed by BMW Group Designworks, mirrors the design language of the BMW Neue Klasse models. This cohesive look extends across the board, paddle, and accessories. Three color variants are available. All materials used are highly durable and sustainable, suited for changing conditions on the water.
Customization and Accessories
A unique feature of the BMW x SipaBoards is its innovative mounting system. This click-and-connect system allows for the quick attachment of various accessories, including cameras, speakers, waterproof bags, and even coolers. LED ambient lighting underneath the board enhances the experience and aids in boarding during low-light conditions.
BMW also offers a Lifestyle Accessory Capsule, which includes items like an Insta360 X5 camera and apparel, allowing owners to personalize their experience.
Battery Options and Availability
The BMW x SipaBoards is offered with two different battery configurations. The standard setup includes two 90 Wh battery modules, providing between one and 3.5 hours of boarding time, ideal for exploring lakes and coastlines.
Beginning in spring 2026, an optional configuration with two 180 Wh battery modules will be available for extended expeditions. This setup will allow users to cruise for between three and seven hours.
The BMW x SipaBoards is available now from the BMW Lifestyle online store, selected SipaBoards retailers, and https://bmw.sipaboards.com, priced at EUR 3,990.00.
